Using Mimiq or any third party storage that spoofs NEXIS is stealing from Avid.

That makes me curious.  Is Facils with it's Terrablock stealing from Avid?

Without question. Its Avid's IP in Media Composer that enables bin locking, the third party storage doesn't enable this. Avid never encrypted this dialog - its in the clear and trivial to reverse engineer.  Technically they could turn off bin locking for any storage except NEXIS but that likely wouldn't go over well. But Bin Refresh is an encrypted dialog, this is why no third party offers it.

    Is it protected by patent?

I guess what I am asking about is a moral issue versus a legal issue.

I imagine Avid could easily disable bin locking on third party storage if they choose to.  The selection that users must now make to enable third party sharing points to that.

This has the hallmark of a good six-pack of beer discussion next time you are in the DC area.  Big Smile

How's this? You'll have to open the image in a new tab to read it all.

Bob, that looks like a patent currently assigned to EditShare...?
