Change AvidMediaFiles from C:\Users\Public\Documents to root C:

I'm not a fan of the new location for avidmediafiles... Can the default location be changed to the root c:\ for files rendered to my os drive?  thanks

I wouldn't have my media on my C: drive as that drive is usually busy dealing with program files and windows files. I'd really suggest you transcode and render to another drive that is not used by anything.

    Hi,

The files in that location are only used as source media for effects and test signals. They are put there by the installer and the location can't be changed.

    this is MC 2021.

MediaFiles on os drive is 100% harmless if you want a portable setup (sometimes its temporary), Especially if you have a 4tb+ nvme drive.

By default, new versions of media composer are not creating media to c:\ root anymore.

before opening MC 2021.5 on Windows 10 this morning I already this folder and it has only the standard Avid installed media files only in it.

My C:\  drive already had  a C:\Avid MediaFiles \MXF\1 folder on it that has been there for years locally created test media that I have in a favorites bin in all projects.

This morning I reset my media creation settings to C:\ from my usual media drive and imported some media.  This media went as expected to C:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1. None of this media went to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1. So, at least here for me, with an existing C:\Avid MediaFiles folder MC 2021.5 was working as expected.

Re: Change AvidMediaFiles from C:\Users\Public\Documents to root C:

I tested on a clean system. New install. No media has ever been on the C:\ drive. Made a new project, created a Title, saved the title and title media. Then when I went looking for that created media it was in the public user documents folder.

Now, do not confuse this new folder:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1

With the 'offline error' media folder:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Avid_MediaFiles

Note the underscore character in the 'offline error' media folder and no underscore in the new MXF media folder.

Avid I think changed it because on newer OSX releases, apps are not allowed to write at the root of the system drive. To keep it consistent across both OS, any files created on the system drive will lead to the Public folder instead.

My test yesterday showed that with my C:\ already having a working C:\Avid MediaFiles folder a new project opened with MC 2021.5 writes all new media into the C:\Avid MediaFiles MXF\1 folder and does not write it to either of the Public folders mentioned in these threads.  This test was limited to  a standalone system with no shared storage.

Very interesting. Could you check something.

Do you also see these 'effects' appear here?

Re: Change AvidMediaFiles from C:\Users\Public\Documents to root C:

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'effects' appearance? Are you asking if I have those effects in the effect palette or are you asking if effect renders also save to the Public\Documents folder?

I see all the standard effects in the Effect Palette.

I put a Signal Generator on an audio track and hit render in the plug-in and that rendered audio file was added to the MediaFiles folder in the Public\Documents.
