    Updating an old Media Composer.

    Dear All,

I’ve been editing for decades & have a perpetual licence that I haven’t been able to afford to keep up with the times (plus I would need a new computer & updating expensive plug ins too etc).

I’m currently on a 10 year old mac O/S 10.10.5 (Yosemite) running MC 8.4.5 - which works fine, but considering upgrading O/S to 10.12.1 (Sierra - or the less buggy version 10.12.6). My license allows me to run MC 8.7.0 on this & is still downloadable - but the MC gets stuck booting up. Is this because the dongle needs updating? If so, I’m assuming that’s via an Application Manager - but it appears the corresponding application manager no longer exists.

Any thoughts about how I can rectify the issue?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Are you getting an error message? MC 8.7.0 support up to 10.12.1 (Sierra)

    Thanks,

    Hi Ralph

    Thanks for replying.

I don't get an error message - it just hangs when it gets to AVX2.

(Apparently my licience runs to 12/21/16 which, according to the Matrix, should cover MC 8.7.0).

    Many thanks.

Have you tried moving all the AVX2 plugins from their folder to another folder temporarily?  Then try booting MC. If that works you can put 1 AVX2 plugin back in its proper folder and see if that works.   Repeat until all plugin are back in the folder or you find 1, or more AVX2 plugins that have issues.

Possibly.  Not sure if the following info  applies to an expired perpetual account but normally your dongle updater's  can be found in your Avid Account, My Products,  then select your version of MC and look for Download dongle updater.

    Thanks Andrew.

All working now. Well, other that one old plugin whose ownership has passed to another company. Grrr. The joys of software!
