Hi,
Does anyone know if the behaviour for the 'Move Clip Up/Down' command has changed?
When I did this in the past it over-wrote any clips than were on other tracks.....
Example:
- I have a sequence with 3 video tracks: a clip on V2 and one on V3 (stacked above each other), but nothing on V1.- I move the clip from V3 to V1 by using the 'Move Clip Down' command twice.
After the first click the clip that was on V2 has been overwritten - it's gone. (which is what I expect).
But on the second click the original video from V2 has returned (with my original video from V3 now on V1 where I want it).
Is there a way to set things up so that the over-written clips don't return like this?
NOTE: I have the red arrow selected the entire time (athough I'm not sure that makes a difference/has an effect?).
Thanks for any help.

Yes, this behavior has changed. From the readme posted in the announcement above:
Moving Segments in the Timeline - you can move segments in the Timeline up and down without leaving filler each time the segment is moved consecutively. This also applies to moving segments horizontally using the Trim left and Trim right keys
I think I also read that there is a time limit, like 5 seconds where if you don't move the clip again, it become permanent (like the old behavior where it wipes out the existing clip).
Ah I see, thanks for that info Eric!
Can this new behavior be deactivated? I looked through the settings but didn't find anything yet. While helpful in some situations, it can make things quite cumbersome in others.

Not currently in 2021.3, but I read someplace they're going to add the ability to choose whether or not it overwrites.

I hope, they do. Makes cleaning up a timeline a lot easier. ;)
Thx Carl!
I've just noticed that the behaviour is the same when using the trim buttons ('trim to the right/left 8 frames').....
...which means that if I eat into another clip by triming left, when I trim it right again the overwirtten frames reappear.
I would also love this behaviour to be an option in the settings.
Hello,
2021.5 is available. I can't test / look at the version right now, if someone has 2021.5 up and running I'd be great look for an option to controll the behaviour. I found nothing in the documentation / changelog.
Best regards,
Christian
I'm on 2021.5 at the moment and have not found a way to change this behaviour.
There's no option to globally change the behavior. The change they implemented in 2021.3 was adding the 5-second wait time.
From the 2021.3 What's New document:
You can move segments in the Timeline up and down without leaving filler each time the segment is moved consecutively. This also applies to moving segments horizontally using the Trim left and Trim right keys. IMPORTANT: This only applies with repeated up/down and left/right movement. If there is a change to the segment selection or more than 5 seconds have passed after the last move, moving segments will leave filler behind.

Thank you for confirming!
For anyone interested: I submitted a feature request, a +1 on that thread would increase the possibilty of it being noticed.
Carl, Thank you for posting the What's New info. In terms of the 5 sec wait limit, would you be able to describe how a highlighted segment or segments can be duplicated to a new vertical and horizontal position vs. simply moving those segments across an existing one which you may or may not want to leave in place ?
This all seems very powerful and good...especially the Undo to highlighted state.

Hi, what is going on with this? I'm still not seeing a feature to disable it. How many versions will it take to impliment?
Has this been implimented in any versions? Still standing by for any updates.
