    'Save As' in MC?

    Hello all

I would like to know if there is a way to save different versions of your MC project as you go, like a save as option. I don't necessarily want to be overwriting everytime I hit save.

I have considered simply copying the project folder before I get started working each day. But surely there must be a fucntion within Media Composer?

    Thankyou

Might be with looking up about the Avid Attic.

You have settings to control how many versions of bins to retain in the attic anfmd the total number of bin saves per project. So that every time you save the old version is saved.

But typically its best practice to copy the project at the end of the session to a separate storage device and add the date to the folder name.

Unlike other NLEs an Avid project isn't a single file it's made up if bins setting folders etc.

Really a you need protect are the bins and that's what the attic helps with.

The other thing to bear in mind is that Avid writes the project name into the metadata of media it creates, this enables you to easily see the appropriate media in the media tool (also MDV.)

Incidentally I wish AE's would stick to one project name...

Create a new bin and duplicate the sequence you are working on and give it a new version name at suitable intervals.

Append "superceded" to earlier cuts, as i will work on the wrong one otherwise.

And never, ever, under any circumstances, write "final cut" on a version.

(Because once the wrong one went to the neg cutter.)
