I'm wondering what the recommended way to work with Alpha Channel clips is with Media Composer 2020 (beta and beyond), now that it appears we no longer have support for QuickTime ProRes 4444 which was the previous method I used to get lower thirds, etc with alpha channels into Media Composer from After Effects.
Can we somehow export a DNxHR with alpha as a MXF file? It would be wonderful if this option could be consolidated/transcoded into a native media composer MXF file so I don't need to worry about a handful of external files with alpha channels when moving and archiving projects. It would also be nice if the performance of alpha channel media was improved, but perhaps that's asking too much ha ha.
Thanks!
Hi,
I am after this info too, did you ever work it out? I cant find the answer online or from testing as to how to get clips with alpha from AE to Avid?
PNG Sequence? Slower than the old way, but it gets you there.
Can´t you export DnxHD/DnxHDr with alpha out of AE and then import that into Avid via fast import? That´s how I do it on 2018.3.
Andre.
Honestly I hate editing.
not if that DNxHD/DNxHR is in a quicktime wrapper! The only way that has worked for me is PNG sequence with alpha!
Bump... same issue
I've since learned that I couldn't export from AE as ProRes 4444 with alpha and get desired results but if I send the render to AME, I have that option and it works. RIP QT!!!
Animation codec with Alpha still works OK
If I can remember correctly I don't think animation with alpha worked for me. Isn't that in a QuickTime wrapper? Will have to test this out again!
