It's been a few years since I looked into this, so I figured I'd ask about this again.
Is there any way to change the default size and location of new bins when they're created? I know it may seem like a small thing, but I work on some projects that use lots of bins for organization, and it gets irritating to always have to move and resize every new bin I create. If I could tell avid to create them at the size and in the position that I'm going to end up putting them, it would save some of the tedious "fiddly" process.
Thanks,
Larry
On a very similar note, is there a way to QUICLY resize and move new bins to a specific locaiton and size, i.e. some way to tell a bin window to resize and move to MY default bin location instead of having to "fiddle" it into the right spot by grabbing the edges of the window and manually fitting it into correct location. I can understand some people wanting new bins to be being created in a "cascading" fashiion so they don't fully cover each other, but given they appear at a totally useless size and position, it strikes me as rather ridiculous that there is no way to quickly resize and move them.
I tried creating a new bin and then re-selecting my workspace (which, by the way, has the bins in the standard upper left location.) The new bin will move, but NOT to the normal workspace location. Rather, they relocate to an equally illogical spot.
To make matters worse, once in a while when I start MC up, the edges of some bins have shifted just a little bit. Not lot, but enough that they encroach on the windows to the right and below -- enough that once again grabbing the edges and resizing them back again is called for. It's not a deal breaking issue by any means, but it's a constant annoyance that calls for a fiddly little process to be repeated all the time.
Thanks again,
If you use docked bins in MC, once you have your first bin size and location set, every bin you dock to it will assume the same size and position. Not in front of Avid right now, but I assume that if you then undock a bin it will retain the size attributes as you drag it to a new location within the MC app.
Thannks for the suggestion -- I think that does make things a bit easier.
The problem with docking bins is that if you close one, it is no longer docked when you re-open it, so actually "using" them in this state doesn't really work in my situation (since I want to close them sometimes.) I believe, however, that you're suggesting that I use the docking process to "auto-size" new bins, after which I can then undock and place them. This does make the process a bit easier since it eliminates sizing and only requires placing.
I'd still LOVE to be able to tell MC to always place new bins in a specfic loaction with a specific size.

I agree...saving a default position would be nice. On big projects I often use two sets of docked bins - one for footage bins from different sources, and the other for sequences, audio, graphics, stock footage, music, etc.

Bin Layouts are per-Project settings, you can use.

Can't believe they didn't fix this in the new version. Especially since this has been a recurrent request by pretty much 100% of the user base. One incredibly lazy decision made decades ago still plagues every version of MC. Hard to believe.
I spend most of my time between New York and Los Angeles. In Nebraska.
