Hi Guys,
I have been working with avid for over 20 years now in post production house in london. I have now decided to get a system of my own up and running. I have runa trial version of 8.4.4 which i had floating around and worked fine. I decided to purchase a years subscription and found i could only use the new versio 2018.12.3. Fine, i thought, will be nice to use a new updated version.
Not so! i cant even scrub through audio without it sticking on the timeline. When you play any video it jumps and stops randomly. Its all very strange. Thing is, i now cant use my licience to roll back to an earlier version as i dont have a 'Perpetual' licience, apparently!
My system details are below. Whilst i admit they are not from the offical workstation supplier list (hp, dell etc.) , i think you can see that the spec is more than suffienct. So whats going on? I have never had this problem even using an older version on laptops connected to a unity system!!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Silly question... did you match your nvidia driver to 2018.12.3 MC and your P4000 card? There’s a matrix on avid site and buried in many posts.

Absolutely not silly!! I haven't done that. I've got AE CC2019 on the same system so it's a juggling act with the drivers.
I will hunt down the driver list on here. Although I don't see how that would affect the audio too. But it's a start. The annoying thing is that I've already paid for a year subscription for something I cant really use yet!
Thanks for the tip.
So i have downloaded the correct drivers, which avid recomend to use the old 353.82 NVIDIA drivers for my Quadro P4000, a real pain as After Effects wont use the CUDA cores unless you have 411.95. so i have problems right away. A right pain as i have both on the same system.
Anyway. i am going to contact avid to try and get to the bottom of this as i cant use MC as it stands.
Phil
The K4000, M4000, P4000 and others in these series of cards use the driver that ships with MC. The older Q4000 and Q2000 use the v353.82 driver

I think 411.95 is supported by mc 2018.12.3 and P4000. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en267087

HI Marianna,
Thank you for your reply. SO where would i find that driver within my download? I will give that a go to see if it helps.
I have already tried that one. No joy. WHat is strange is that everything works fine on 8.4.4 but on 2018.12.3 i can not even scrub through audio (with no video turned on) without it sticking on the timeline.
And having a subscritption and not a 'perpetual' licience means i can not use, or activate, older versions.
Phil....
I checked with the testing guys at Avid and there really isn't much to go on. No I/O, no shared storage (at least, nothing in the message).
Seems like you are stuck on the audio.
Try a different project/sequence.
Maybe you have an issue with some audio effects in the new MC version.
Hi Marianne,
Thank you for looking into this again. You're right in the the fact that there is no i/o or shared storage. The audio I have tried ut with was an imported mp3. And I can not scrub either in the source window or in the timeline both without effects. It is indeed very strange. I am going to do a full test of it tomorrow with new drivers and fresh install. After which I will post my results on here so hopefully there may be something to go on. If there are any tests you or anyone else can think of please let me know.
Maybe it could be an HD vs SD thing? But again there is no problems cutting in full hd on v8.4.4 on the same system.
From what I have seen the spec seems to be ample to handle everything. So very puzzling.
Did you do an uninstall of older version before going to the new?
My system is very old and even on 365x it goes very good

HI,
Yes did a complete uninstall & then re-install.
I now have the audio sorted by using the 411 drivers for the P4000. It plays fine too, however.......
The scrubbing on the timeline is VERY laggy still. I can drag the blue timeline 'Line' around the timeline and it takes a good two seconds to catch up. Its really slow. That seems to be the only thing wrong now. I use a full hardware version on a unity system with i/o's etc. And its really quick. There is no lag at all. This is the same for when i use a software version only on a laptop at work, over unity too!, no lag at all whilst scrubbing. So why is it happenening for me?
Im using 2018.5.487 on the unity system in the post production house. Runs fine.
Is it just this one timeline? Can you try and copy the content to a new timeline and try that? I still think something is wonky with the audio that came over from the older version.

Hi,
I have kind of fixed the audio issue, have a look at the previous post. Its still the scrubbing of the timeline which is a problem.
I re-installed from scratch last night and started a fresh project with new settings etc and tried it at different resolutions. Same with everything though.
I just used an imported colour bars jpeg for footage and tone for sound. nothing complicated.
