Having issues relinking proxies created from Da Vinci Resolve.
DA VINCI RESOLVE
1. Import Media Sony fs7.
2. Create a new timeline with the Media.
3. On the delivert tab choose from the preset Avid AAF.
4. Render files to a nubered folder in the root Avid Media Folder.
MEDIA COMPOSER
1. Drag the mdb from the AVid Media Folder which contains the Da Vinci Resolve proxies into a new bin.
2. Create a sequence and edit with the proxies from Resolve in Media Composer.
3. Import as AMA all the Sony fs7 original footage into a new bin called ama relink.
4. Choose the sequence with the proxies from Resolve and choose re-link to items slected in open bins, with the fs7 media highlighted in the bin in Avid.
5. Tried all combinations of re-linking and for example Resolve adds a unique file name so for example v-0001_filename.mxf so in the ama it's called filename.mxf I tried on the relink to ignore last occurane by putting in an underscore _ and that didn't work said nothing to relink?
So what's the correct way to relink? As this worked perfect before using the same. Media Compsoer 2018.12 and latest Resolve 15.2.3 on OSX Sierra and tested under Windows 10 as well.
Thanks,
Leo
Hi,
Not wishing to question your workflow if it's worked for you before, but
I'd just relink to the camera files at this point, then transcode the sequence. If Avid can't link to the camera files, I'd take the AAF back to Resolve and relink to the camera files, then export an AAF with high res media that I'd take back to Media Composer.
Hope that helps.
Yes is step 3 importing the Fs7 camera files or AMA linking the camera files?
Does the bin of the clips from Resolve in MC with source file and source path have data in it? Does it match the clips in the AMA liked bin of the direct Fs7 fils.

Just checking you've deselected the 'relink only to media from the current project'?
St.John
Dear Pat,
I have no values in the Soure Path orSOurce File in Avid Media composer bin for the imported Da Vinci Resolve proxies.
Resolve Bin in Avid only shows Start, Tape, drive name.
Kind regards,
Dear St. John,
Yes I tried de-seclting i the Relink sequence options 'relink only to media from the current project'.
Kind Regards,
Dear Hanse,
THe Resolve files where generated 3rd party by someone else and given to editorial dnx36 8bit 1080p. Which these proxies files where edited in Media Composer. I tried exporting an AAF from Media Composer into Resolve, then in Resolve in the Media pool import the camera originals and it doesen't seem to match back to the correct footages which were edited.
Can you get the 3rd parties original Resolve project? If so open that Project.Export an AAF from MC without media.Open the Camera Originals in Reolves media pool.Import the MC AAF into Resolve. Resolve should then link to the camera originals. If you are unluck you may have to point Resolve at a few Camera Original directories.
Dear Alayne,
Unfortunetly the dailies which were created by the 3rd party, they don't have the Resolve project. So The offline was done with the created proxies. I cound not get any relink options to relink the sequence in Media Composer to the AMA imported clips form the camera.
What I did was use the Timecode Windows in Media Composer to show me the clip name and timecode. Then find the AMA clip v1-00001_filenamexxx.mxf for example sifting contents to find the clip i the bin. Then finding the timecode start in the source browser then replacing the clip on the timeline a lot of work with a 1hr 30 min documentary.
It seems the only stumbling block in with-in the relink in Media Composer because each clip has the prefix of v1-0001_filename.mxf on the proxies for each clip from Da Vinci Resolve. I tried add _ underscore in the relink optins of Media comoser to ignore the last occurance. Which I presume as I have a bin called AMA with all the camera original Media selcted that in the re-link choosing clips in open bins that it would link using the ignore underscore.
Resolve has lots of ways to relink. I watched a Colourist with Resolve 12 about 3 years back perform miracles with a complex MC cut with a couple of dozen clips that did not play nice at first. I was not really familiar with Resolve back then and could not follow his processes let alone his servers drive setup nearly as well as I would have liked.
Resolve manual (downloadable) probably covers it really well in a section on Conforming the timeline. If that does not help somewhere I have a bookmark to or a tutorial on conforming. If this could help email me from the forum and I will find it for you.
In future I would suggest asking any third party proxie footage supplier to include their Resolve project backup. It would only be a few megabytes and alleviate issues like this.
Scott Freeman did a very detailed tutorial a couple of years ago about round tripping between Media Composer and Resolve:
http://www.avidblogs.com/how-to-roundtrip-davinci-resolve-to-avid-media-composer-tutorial/
This gets round the Resolve filename v1-00001 etc file prefix problem by creating a custom LINK column in the MC bin and copying the tape name from Resolve to this column, having previously copied the filename from the files you edited in Avid to a LINK column also. It's very clearly explained in the tutorial, so may help you.
