I've just been upgraded to 2018.12.11 and it seems that turning off background save from the console now is persistent. So no need to type backgroundbinsave in the console after each restart of MC :-)

Can anyone confirm this change? I haven't seen it mentioned in the release notes...

Additionally the save progress box now includes the text (Background Save disabled)

This was a change that was released with 18.12.8.  It’s not new to 18.12.11.

Also, the general rule is we don’t document console commands and changes to console commands.

We’ve made some exceptions over the years to that policy, but in this case we would never document a console command to disable a core functionality. 

The disable background bin save command is there for debugging and troubleshooting purposes only and if a customer requires it to be always disabled there is a deeper issue that needs to be logged and investigated.

Can you email me the scoop on your system and specifications and what exactly happens and I can get this looked at?

As he said, we are inteested to know if this is only affecting one or two configurations, or if it is larger in scope.

We triage by asking you:
- Is it just Windows? Is it macOS too? What OS versions? Or all?
- Is it just affecting those on (let's say) MC 2020.3? Or more?

The more we know, the quicker or more thoroughly you are helped... So if you ARE experiencing this still, please give RalphC as much info as possible!

Hi Ralph, this is still an ongoing issue in my environment and I have a (long since closed) set of support cases. I'll send you an email when i can.

Hi Chris, welcome to the forums and thank You for looking into this. I'm not on MC 2018 anymore, and the attic has been working fine on MC 2021 as far as I remember. I will certainly double check the attic, just in case, and will report back ASAP.

I'm working with MC 2023.3.1 / OSX 12.6.7. And couldn't save my bin anymore, it always crashed during "Creating bin snapshot for background save", although I tried to save manually.

With background save disabled in the console it's working.
