Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

Can you list the steps you took so perhaps we can duplicate your issue? Last time I tried to use it, I would create a box/line of text and subsequent boxes/lines would be moved to the point it was unusable.

I am afraid it happens quite randomly. Does anyone know hot to open the old title tool? Avid Support says, you can use the title toon instead of titler+ in HD Projects. But in the tools menu and effects palette I can only see titler+.

Oh no. Does it help to get a newer mac? Or is it just a software problem?

Apple removed support for 32-bit applications in Catalina (and later macOS, also). The legacy title tool is a 32-bit application, so it will not work in Catalina or Big Sur, or any later macOS.

If you want the legacy title tool, you can run Mojave (or whatever earlier macOS works with your version of Media Composer), or you can switch to Windows, which still supports 32-bit applications.

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

    Thanks for all this input.

The suggestion 'Switch to Windows'; could this include running Avid on a boot-camp partition on existing Mac? Title Tool is a huge part of my legacy projects (sub-titling for translation and/or accessibility) and needs to be part of those few remaining future projects I may have.
Wondering if the same Avid install could open from the boot-camp, or do you re-install onto the new partition?

Haven't boot-camped for ever so many years, but will listen to any suggestions or warnings from the forum

(*noting that reverting to Mojave from Catalina last year, scrambled my hard-drive somewhat)

    (*gosh I miss Title Tool)

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

Thanks, Roger - does that mean you could run your same Avid install from Mac or Windows partition? (Why you'd want to, beats me, but hey)

And the reason I'm pursuing this is to access legacy Title Tool - not least for legacy projects, but also to use on current/future animations and shorts. (The 64/32 bit thing with Catalina did my head in and I reverted to Mojave, but clunkily)

I imagine you could but I have more than one licence. If only one licence, activate/deactivate/activate? Bootcamp won't cost you anything but the time taken to set it up so well worth a try.

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

Long thread - but eagerly awaiting arrival of Roger's book (hard-copy, ring-bound... already feeling more relaxed at the thought.)

Also smoothed by a clean re-install of OS10.14.6 and rationalisation of hard-drive. (Thanks, Kasia at London Mac. Even just my brief flirtation with Catalina had re-organised time-machine backup structure. Hadn't thought of that when proudly managing to revert OS all by myself during lockdown.)

BUT now to download and install the best version of Avid MC for this cleaner set-up.
Most work will be on legacy projects, 1920x1080 if that:)
Had been running MC2020.10.0 - and would love the legacy Title tool, if compatible/available.

Thanks as ever, for any advice or insights!

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

    hi Susi,

Glad you were able to revert to Cataline OK - not something that owners of more recent Mac hardware are able to do, sadly.

I'm in the same situation as you - many old legacy yet still current HD projects with old Title Tool. I've been running 10.14.6 with MC 2020, and now upgraded to 2021. I downloaded the MC Legacy Components from the download centre and am able to use the old Title Tool OK. https://my.avid.com/esd/product/download?id=2489 scroll to bottom of page.

[Actually, I tend to still use MC8.9.1 on another partition (10.12.6), as I have Boris FX 10 on some projects, which is incompatible with MC2021]

I find I'm also using DaVinci Resolve a lot recently and really impressed with its title tool - and everything else about it really. I just wish Titler+ were as straight-forward! Hope this helps... :)

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

Thanks Danny - reverting from Catalina to Mojave by myself, just didn't work out at all well; the professional who sold me this reconditioned MBP mended the mess I'd made and clean-installed from scratch. The TimeMachine restore kept knocking her back to square one, so I've spent most of today restoring software piece by piece and manually copying over documents, projects, LR catalogs, etc.

And thanks a million for the specific link!
Looks like it's 2021.3 MAC plus Legacy Components 2020.12.1 Mac for me, now.
How are you finding the upgrade from 2020 to 2021 version?

Helps a million just to hear Title Tool will be available - embarassing number of old projects riddled with subtitled translations, that are now my working capital:)
