    Cant start MC 2018.11

    Hello

Just about to make the plunge and setup an editing suite at home but wanted to install MC on the trial version to make sure it would start properly. Unfortunately, I've ran into some problem. Running the 2018.11 as trial, I get by all the initial loading screens. But when I try and start a new project media composer just freezes. My system is as follows:

    i9 9900k

    32 gb ram

    Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU

    A couple of discs...

I have tried to un- and re-install MC a couple of times with no difference. After I create a project (which works perfectly fine) the entire MC suite freezes up and windows tells me a minute or so later that the program has stopped responding.

    Best regards, Daniel

    Re: Cant start MC 2018.11

    Update:

I found what I believe is both the problem and a work-around. It turns out its the dual monitor setup thats messing things up. After a total re-installation (including backing windows to 1803) I played around with the gpu and it turned out that if I only have 1 monitor active it works perfectly fine! But with two monitors it simply crashes when trying to load any project, even a newly created one. The work-around turned out to be nvidias 3D surround function, creating a virtual monitor out of two or more screens. Works pretty good, although I would prefer to be able to turn on full screen playback on only one screen.

If this is known to anybody please let me know as I would prefer to avoid the work-around.

    Best regards, Daniel

PS When working the system is smooth, have been importing and playing around with 1080p clips today.

    Re: Cant start MC 2018.11

if you went "back" to 1803 then it was most likely an os incompatibilty problem.

If i were you id do a clean install of 1803... you shouldnt have to mess around with gpu settings to do what you want to do.

I just did a clean install of 1803, installed nvidia drivers, quicktime, and media composer 2018.11 and don't have any issues.

I'd get more ram if i were you too.  media composer won't use the 2070 to its full potential but it will sure like the ram.

w10, always the latest version of MC, diy 7940x, gtx 1080 ti. [view my complete system specs]

    Re: Cant start MC 2018.11

Sorry, should have clarifief myself. I did a fresh install of windows 1803. But your post ensured me something was wrong, as (except for the hardware) I did exactly as you. Turns out it was my ASUS motherboard that bundled the audio drivers with something called ”sonic”. Apparently it has been creating problems for Premiere users as well :-/

Anyway, thanks for the advice, you were right about the incompatibility issues. Now it works like a charm after uninstalling the asus programs! Oh, regarding the gpu. I was planning on using davinci as well that to my understanding likes ”gpu horsepower”. So far I was only planning for editing 1080-material, and to my understanding 32gb would do. Did load all fotage for a project (~10 hours) into a bin and started logging the material and doing some rough editing (well my wife did, I’m francly degraded to being the IT department/janitor/everything else).

    Best regards, Daniel
