Still randomly happening every now and then here too, still on MC 2018.12.3. Dropping all clips from a bin to the timeline is the best way to a close encounter with this hiccup. It does not seem project related either, it's happening with both brand new projects and old projects (that did not have this issue in the past).

Bug is still happening,
Does Avid support sees those threads? this is been happening for over 2 years now and still no response from anyone at Avid.
We loose so much time on each edit waiting for the clip to load into the sequence. Again this is only happening with Sony FS7 clips converted to any flavor of Avid DNXHD.
If it was up to me I would cut these shows in an other application but unfortunately the production house is still using Avid 2018 so we're stuck with it.
Come on Avid, please respond.

Did you ever create a case on this at all thru the support portal or by calling in? I see this one created by me
They asked:
1- When was the last time it was working and what changed in your system since then? 2- Could you provide me your workstation specification? 3-What is the AMA plug in in use to link those clips? 4- Could you provide me a screenshot of the error message given by the system or screen recording of the crash? 5- Have you tried to create a new User Profile (from the project window) and to reset the Avid Media Composer settings? 6- Is the problem consistent (does it happen at the same place each time in every project)?
Happy to help and get this looked at further Eric.

Hello Marianna and thanks for the reply
to answer your questions:
1- When was the last time it was working and what changed in your system since then?
I dont think it was ever working when dealing with FS7 footage, I cut a lot of shows for Europeen TV stations most on Media Composer. For this specific production we have to cut in media composer 2018.12.11, I'm curious to see if the bug is still happening in the 2020 version.
2- Could you provide me your workstation specification?
Mac pro late 2013, 2.7Ghz 12 core intel Xeon E5, 64GB 1866 MHZ DDR3, AMD FirePro D700.
Running on 10.14.6 (Mojave)
Media is on G tech Sttudio XL Raid, connected directly via Thunderbolt.
3-What is the AMA plug in in use to link those clips?
here's a list of what we installed on the system:
AMA PLUG-IN NAME COMPANY NAME VERSION

nablet XAVC XDCAM Plug-in nablet GmbH 4.5.8.2070
nablet XDCAM EX Plug-in nablet GmbH 4.5.8.2070
We dont link to the original file, we must import all footage to MXF DNxHD or ProRes
4- Could you provide me a screenshot of the error message given by the system or screen recording of the crash?
So the first error message is on import:
then when as I'm cutting some clips (Not alls) take 4 to 5 second to load in the timline when edited with theses 2 messages,
And on top of that Media composer creates a duplicate of those clips and place in what ever bin is selected in the media browser, this is realy the most annoying part cause it creates havoc into our bins.
5- Have you tried to create a new User Profile (from the project window) and to reset the Avid Media Composer settings?
yes tried all these suggestions and more, problem is still happening.
6- Is the problem consistent (does it happen at the same place each time in every project)?
it is consistent with clips shot on the FS7 and all projects we worked on.
Really hope we can get to the bottom of this.
and thank you again for looking into this.
I have had to reopen one of the troublemaking projects, did not work extensively for a long time, but so far I haven't seen this glitch happening, FWIW. Project was created in MC 18.x back in april 2019, and reopened with MC 20.6.
Not sure if this helps or not, but I can see a couple of things here from the screenshots, the Nablet plugins could use an update:
http://www.nablet.com/product-category/plugins/avid-media-composer/
The path is also not ideal you have a space in a folder name
/volumes/g-speed...../FS7 Jour1/carte1 /XDROOT
after the carte1 there is a space in that folder..
"carte1 " rename it to "carte1" without a space after the 1
Spaces at the end of foldername is bad, could be the AMA plugin doesn't work because of that.In Windows you can't even read that folder and windows will throw an error.

Hi All,
Has anyone found a solution for this issue? Been experiencing this problem for over 3 weeks -- desperately looking for any insight.
TIA
It's back!!! I'm on a project with library footage, some clips have humonguosly long names, some of them could not even be linked without shortening the file name first, and my best guess is that these are the troublemakers. These very same clips are messing things up in Adobe AE either, on OSX, which is the online environment for this particular project.
Thanks, Luca!
Were all your sequences effected or just where the trouble clips were involved?
Hi Buzzkill, only the sequences containing the clips with very very long names are involved, and it's not "every time I insert a clip", but it's every time I insert/splice a clip with too long a name.
Much thanks, Luca -- super appreciate your insight!!
My pleasure Buzzkill, please be aware that shortening the clip name in MC after linking and transcoding doesn't do the trick, my best guess is that one has to delete the offending clips, delete the linked clips database kept by MC, rename the raw clips with shorter names, link and transcode them again, but I have no time to spare for a double check.
Before I ingest anything file based into MC I check filenames, length and any "odd" characters.
I create an excel spreadsheet. Copy and paste the original names and then my modified simple names
That way I have a cross reference.
I do this as I place those source clips in my predefined storage location and then ingest from there.

Thanks again, Luca & excellent strategy, Pat--thank you, too!
Hello there Buzzkill, You're very welcome indeed! I take it that You confirm that the issue is too long file names then! Is that correct?
