I’m not able to use background services
the dialogue in my browser explains “local host not found”.
The console in the mediacomposer has the same error “local host not found” and my app manager can’t phone home, (if I use the hotspot on my mobile it can phone home).
I’ve done a separate install of the OS (10.13.3) on a different partition of the system, drive and a fresh install of mediacomposer, and background services work fine.
So back on the main partition of the system drive, I have tried the following;
Complete uninstall and reinstall of mediacomposer
Completely reinstalled the OS
Still have the same probulem with background services!
I think I have inherited a problem from migrating from my previous Mac.
So what is my next step?
Your thoughts much appreciated.

Have you checked all permissions are Read and Write especially the folders used by Avid?Run a repair permissions?Tried a new or different user?
Thanks I will Try and report back
Thanks for the suggestions which I tried but the problem has remained til now.
I’ve had a breakthrough with background services, and they are now working.
Beforehand when selecting the background queue from the menu bar services my browser would always report “local host not found”.
So I fixed the local host issue using terminal commands supplied by Apple support, and now background services will start. I can’t get background transcoding to work YET , Edit, got it working- through a process of stumbling through. In the activity monitor I quit java (I had installed it to run an old version of photoshop), I noticed the background service stopped working and could not find “local host”. I restarted, background services would run again. I launched media composer and did a background render, it worked! Then I tried a background transcode, it WORKED!
Anybody know what is going on here?
Also worth a note is that my application manager would fail to sign in on launch. That is now fixed with the “local host” fix
Please what commands did you write in the terminal?
Unfortunately I can’t remember, I was guided by apple telephone support to fix the “ local host not found” problem, which was not a avid but a a Mac OS problem.
if you find out ,please report back .
If you open a new terminal window and type:
history
that may show you what you typed.
(I can't remember if history is turned on by default or if I turned it on manually on my machine...)

I tried history and it just gave me that days history, any suggestions?
Background services has stopped working again!, and I can’t get it going!
what alerted me to the above solution was seeing “ local host not found” in the meadiacomposer console on launch,
thats what made me ring apple support.
