Re: Salvaging MC v10 (circa 2001) Edit lists and timeline

So I checked all those files and they all seem to have that "line" when I open them in notes.

I loaded the complete hard drive recuperation on the link I gave you. Maybe you can soemthig of it. I placed two interesting folders (for me) at the top of the roots so you can see them when you open the link: "cante update" These folders have what I think are the projects.

Let me know what you think.

In the meantime I'll try to open one the projects with the .adb

    Cheers

    So I did the deed:

After renaming the files .avb my system recognized them and gave a little "bin" icon (probably only due to the extension.

    I am at a loss.

Even an EDL would be great.

Re: Salvaging MC v10 (circa 2001) Edit lists and timeline

I couldn't see any Project files or project setting files. They normally match the master folder name.

As I suggested don't try and open projects (As I don;t think they exist and would be very old formats mayway)

Make new Projects and copy the bins in after adding the .avb extensions. And files that don't open with a .avb extension just forget.

That will give you a project full of bins.

Then just find the sequence you need. Copy it to a freshly made bin (so its in the current format) and duplicate the sequence into that new bin. When you open the sequence it will create an updated copy as it detects its a very old version.

Once you have a sequence you can then export an EDL if that the route you want to go.

I'd be looking at reference files (under set bin display) and then trying to work out what sources I need and how I can ingest them possibly modifying the sequence sources to match the new ingests so I can then relink.

This is all doable but we are about at the limit of what can be done in forum posts it needs hands on a keyboard and I tyhink you aren't that local for me to offe3r that ;-)

Re: Salvaging MC v10 (circa 2001) Edit lists and timeline

OK That seems to be working. My system crshed once already but I think it is because i didn't let finish the updating process.

While we are on the subject of salvaging old projects I need help as my system doesn't seem to be handling the weight of my files.

    I am using a IMAC retina 4k 2017 / 3.6 Ghz intel i7 / 32 Gb 2400 MHz DDR4 / Radeon pro 560 4096 Mb

I am using an external disk for my data source : 4Gb Lacie usb-c (5gb)

I thought the system should do the trick. Yet when I load a ProRes HD clip (equivalent to a DVCAM tape), I can scan content but after about 10seconds of scanning content I get the spinning wheel for about a minute.

    Can you help?

Still working on loading all the old bins.

I'd suspect the external drive. Try moving the file to an internal drive and retest.

OK. Thanks. They are supposed to lighting fast especially with the usb-c (thunderbolt). I would appreciate advice on how I can use my external hard drives to maximise memory management.

As for the timeline salvage job:I managed to open an old  timeline. GREAT NEWS! Except that AVID converts the file (updated duplicate) and when I close the bin I get an error message and the system crashes.

Should I transfer that file before closing the bin? Can I?

(BTW I'm in St Barths if you would like to handle the problem face to face ;-)

What bin was the sequence in and what was the sequence called. I can try and get an updated version out of my system and send it to you.

Happy to come out and look face to face if you pick up the flight and hotel costs. I'll pay the cab fares!

Re: Salvaging MC v10 (circa 2001) Edit lists and timeline

Unless you are in San Juan... even then...

The folder is "Cante update 03/05/02"

The file is the first one:

    ***

This bin would good as well (the most recent):

    ****03/07 ok

    ****20/09 ok

I tried to export the timeline and MC asks to convert my sound files to AIFF
