Long story for a simple problem. i am working with a 2nd remote editor on a project. In the past it was quite simple since I would clone my media drive for the 2nd editor. Then we could just send the project file back and forth and since both drives were named the same, MC would instantly link and we could edit away.
Now I need to do it again, but instead of both editors on a Mac, the 2nd remote editor thjis time is on a PC so I formatted the cloned 2nd drive to exFAT. The problem is that the exFAT drive name is limited to 11 characters and my Mac drive has more than 11 characters in its existing name. The easy solution would be to rename my Mac target drive so that it is 11 or fewer characters. I did this and when I restarted MC none of my media was recognized. So here's my simple question: How do I rename my primary media drive so that my files are still recognized and linked to the project? (I have both AMA linked and imported ProRes MXF files being used in the project)
Ron, please do not double post, Your question has already been answered in the other thread. To summarize: drive name is not an issue for true Avid media files, while linked stuff won't work out of the box and will require manual labour each and every time You move bins between system. exFAT should be avoided, there are affordable solutions to read/write NTFS disks on the Mac and HPFS drives on the PC.
