First and foremost, It’s not a requirement that your media be on seperate drives. You can put media on either the local/internal or external drive. There’s not enough info in the above to know if you might be out of disk space or not or if the disk may be fragmented or even if its related to your inability to launch the application.
But you know that already Bush from being on the Avid for so long.
In my opinion, your laptop isnt strong enough............. all of the approved laptop for MC | First are i7 models. MC | First is derived from MC 8.9.1 so the software needs the headroom and requires the same as the older bro MC.
I am going to check to see if there is anyway to squeeze a tad more out of the Dell you have and the OS but I will need to wait for an answer from the hardware guys and a buch of them ar at IBC. If you could do me a favor.... send me your post above and my response via email with a gentle ( :) ) reminder to ping the guys when they are back mid week.
Happy to check...

Sorry folks last post I'm done no regrets regards to eveyone
i have been on Avid for years but this one is beyond me
that's for sure ..!!
With regards on closing ... (Re: can't get into Media Composer | First)

Will do, Marianna, and thanks. If you don't mind, ask them if upgrading the RAM would solve the problem. I can't see how an i5 quad-core processor is too slow to run this. Seems like most people experimenting with some free software might not have the latest and greatest computer so releasing something so sophisticated might not be the way to go. However, having said that, I have noticed my laptop acting a little squirrelly in some other areas, so I am going to upgrade to a 1tb internal hard drive and completely start from scratch with a fresh install of Win 7 Pro. I'll let you know right away if this fixes things. Thanks again, you are super-helpful!
I run First (and even regular MC) on less than an i5 and with less than 8GB. But I have to take care what sort of media I try and playback. I can AMA link to H264 content but playback is almost impossible. I just transcode to Dnx36 or similar and I'm good to go.
Its important that MC First uses the code base of MC regular as its intended as in introduction to MC regular and MC Regular is a sophisticated editing tool and does need suitable hardware. therefore so does MC First.

Correction :- Windows Home 64 bit
Radion R9 M200 x
56232 Stream Processors
1018 MHz Core Clock 8Gb 512 Bit
GDDR 5
PCI Express
This is under spec - what are we going to need spec-wise
Yes, to no avail sadly. It appears the 9.1 and 9.2 versions did not address this issue either.
Exception :- Can't create a directory as one of the folders in the path below has insufficient permissions path E: xxxx
In plain english simply means you have removed the external drive from last time ..
Given the program is hung up on this exception how does one re-set the default for one drive only ..
