Media Composer is a 64bit application. You can't run it under windows 10 Pro 32 bit.

That would be a major limitation!

Apol -  quite correct,  we overlooked this limitation simply because  people were talking about running on old hardware, we have people talking about going back a long way we  assumed incorrectrly ..

Thanks again people,  Drawing on our  own experience only we are well under the required minimum specification for MCF thanks again ...

You do need a 64bit processor etc of course.

But to be honest if you are looking for a solution for video editing using modern source files (HD H264) then you need hardware thats 5 years old max I'd say. Ideally 3 years old or less and in a perfect world the model yet to be released !

     Hi Ralph

Spot on good question , we were  trying to find a low spec solution so on your advice  Windows 7 Professional 64 bit should be OK however :-On  processore we have experimented with  LGA 775 Dual and Quad so yes - not supported it seems ..Have now experimented with good i7 machines down to would you believe Pentium E2200

In conclusion we don't have anything that supports it and thanks to all once again

    cheers

    Re: Can't get into Media-First.

No. In fact, I upgraded to 8.9.1 and it is more screwed up than before. App Manager disappeared, can't find it. Now its back to opening MC First,  but no buttons work, only the chirp sound. I have to quit using Task Manager. This is a mess!! How do I re-download App Manager so I can  get MC First to open and work? Not thrilled. Laptop has 8gigs of RAM and a i5 quad-core processor, which all worked fine before the "upgrade". Any help here?

I am going to suggest I create a case and have support assist - however if you dont want to wait for them....  I suggest the following..... ( let me know if you want me to create  case)

Do a get info on Appman and see if you are running AppMan v17.8.

I would then Uninstall MC | First completely ( this would be version 8.9.1).  Then I would download it again and I can provide you with the direct link.  Just need to know Mac or PC.

    Re: Can't get into Media-First.

I re-downloaded the program after upgrading to 8.9.1 after which everything went to hell. Now I can't open the program with App Manager or directly by clicking on it. I had created two projects which are now gone. This is a mess! What do I need to do to use this program? I don't know what a root directory is so please explain in detail. Shouldn't be this HARD!

    Re: Can't get into Media-First.

So now I made the mistake of upgrading to 8.9.1 and now nothing works. I can't open from the desktop icon or from App Manager. It worked before upgrade but only if you opened it from App Manager, otherwise, only an edit page that didn't work, buttons only chirped and the edit page took up full screen and you can't resize it, in case there is something going on behind it. Not very happy camper. I realize its free, but c'mon Avid, you could've tested this better. Now I am going to try to use the footage I imported in "First" in my old reliable Media Composer, but not sure how to re-link the footage. Should I create a new project with the same name, then throw away the id file in Avid Media folder so that a new path will be created in MC? What a headache this has been! Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Re: Can't get into Media-First.

Yes, app man is v17.8 and I did uninstall and re-install 8.9.1, still no joy. So feel free to open a case. I know its free, but it should work, no matter what it cost. I downloaded from the Avid site, so if you have a secret better direct link, by all means, please send it along. My laptop has 8 gigs of RAM, an i5 quad core processor, and Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). Thanks muchly!

And if all the above wasn't enough, the link to the ProSound Effects library doesn't work either.
