Transcode multiple jobs at a time.

I wish there was a way for us to manually overload our cpus.  There must be a way that doesnt take that much programming, that allows the system to transcode multiple jobs at a time.  Im at high priority here.  and averageing at 30%

Re: Transcode multiple jobs at a time.

You seem to have a couple of more threads about your AMD builds, I have answered in one or two, maybe you could continue in one of those.

From what I´m aware of Avid wants Intel or Xeon CPU to work best, there should also be a whiteboard about that someplace as well as a list of certified systems but in my own experience also self built systems works well , I have posted a grab showing close to 12 x 100 % CPU usage from an i7 CPU in one of those other threads of yours.

add..  also noticed that you have 90 % of disk usage on that grab, something else to consider when you plan for a transcode is that disk speeds are able to keep up with the transcode speed

add 2.. also noticed that this is the feature request forum so what you want , when drives are up to speed , is extended AMD support , is that so

Re: Transcode multiple jobs at a time.

This really isnt a Ryzen request.  If I can transcode clips in the foreground and background at the same time. Why not just be able to transcode multiple clips in the background at the same time?

w/ ffmpeg for example, one can choose how many instances they want running at the same time. w/ avid, you are limited to 1 clip at a time.

I know what you mean though, there is some overlap.  Ill try to keep it in 1 thread.

Re: Transcode multiple jobs at a time.

FWIW, I have already observed that in some cases, Quicktime is the bottleneck (single-threaded ?) preventing full use of all CPU cores power. So it depends on the kind of files you are transcoding.

Re: Transcode multiple jobs at a time.

With a current disk speed usage of 90 % it is not likely that the Cpu usage could be more than maybe 45 % anyhow.

About Quicktime we don´t know that yet , I also think that I´ve heard someplace that Avid is working on that part but now we are speculating.

Another drive needs to be used for the linked media to get up in transcode speed though .
