Since about last October we have been struggling to find why when using the audio punch in tool we get strange glitches on recorded sound such as Voice overs. Its a bit like digital pops and bad digital frames.

At first we thought it must be wires, microphones etc but having swapped out nearly every bit of pc hardware and external kit we find our second media composer also suffers the same issue.

The two pc's are different HP work stations and have different motherboards, sound cards etc.

Consistent to both suites are Matrox LE i/o boxes.

I wonder is it an issue with those of us using matrox i/o boxes and the fact that no new driver or support software is coming out of matrox now whilst avid forges ahead with the many new versions of media composer.

It has rendered the punch in tool useless.

Anyone else experiencing this ?

Anyone using other i/o hardware that works with punch in ?

Hi,

we use a MOJO-DX connected via optical-ADAT to a ProTools-System. It works very well for the audio puch in, but if you use a digital input to your IO-Box be sure to sync the devices correctly because otherwise you will get glitches.

We have a Video-Sync-Generator connected to our MOJO-DX. The ProTools-System and the MOJO-DX are synced via word-clock. In the MC-Audio-Settings there is a "output-sync via passthrough" setting. Here we use the "same as video out with SRC" settings (it's the default). Maybe you have to expermient here to see which option works best for you.

Thanks for the response.

I am actually feeding the matrox LE with analogue audio via a mixing desk which then I assume is converted to digital within the matrox and passed to media composer.

That then is where the issue occurs. Digitising footage is fine just using punch in produces strange pops etc in places on the recorded punch in audio.

Ok, yes if you feed the matrox LE with an analog signal, the sync should not be the problem.
