I have an old macbook Air 13" 4GB which I'm tryin to use to playback simple sequences for screenings.
I am able to run MC 7 on it but I can't get my UltraStudio BlackMagic Mini Monitor (Thunderbol1 1 connection) to be recognised by MC.
The Mini Monitor is recognised by Resolve but playback in Resolve is not stable.
Has anyone managed to have a working setup like this? I'm thinking maybe with a particular version of MC and the DesktopVideo drivers I might get it to work.
Thanks
If it's just to make a simple playback machine, can't you just hook it directly to the monitor/projector using a thunderbolt-display to HDMi adapter?
If you want to stick to the UltraStudio, someone here might be able to help, but they'll probably need more info about your setup. What OS? What MC version? And so on.
I think the problem could be the bus is just Thunderbolt 1, AFAIK MC needs Thunderbolt 2
EDIT: What Driver version are you using? Have you tried the latest driver?
I need a true 24P signal, hence the Mini Monitor.
I tried the latest drivers which work fine with Resolve but in MC it doesn't even recognise the hardware.
I thought maybe an older set of drivers might work if someone can point me to which combination of MC/drivers they have success with.

And what OS is the MacBook running?

I don't think that MC 7 is officially working with that version.
I would install 10.9.5 or 10.10.5 on the MacBook Air (on a dedicated partition if you also use it for other things), along with MC 7.0.6.2 (the latest 7.x.x version) and with the corresponding drivers from BlackMagic.
Earlier this year I used an Air with Thunderbolt Blackmagic MiniMonitor very successfully for 24p screenings. Picture quality was excellent, very much better than that available using the Air's HDMI output. The complication is on the audio side. With the Mini Monitor audio is embedded in the HDMI or SDI out so either the connection at the previewtheatre needs to go through something like an AV reciever or you will need an HDMI audio brakeout box like the one made by CYP. Audio out via the Air's minijack is not an option. From what I remember the setup was running 10.10.5 (Yosemite) MC 8.4.3 and Desktop Video 10.5. Media - mostly DNxHD 120 - ran off a USB3 connected drive. Choice od MC version was to match the version on the system the film was actually cut on.
Thanks everyone.
I did get it working by installing on older version of Desktop Video. i just kept going backwards until I hit upon the right one.
