This question is a pretty basic one and has probably already been asked and answered, but in a search I did I couldn't find a related thread, so please forgive me if I missed something.

A customer in Australia is sending me (in Germany) about 8 hours of DV25 420 (PAL) OMF files digitised on an Avid Xpress Pro HD, copied onto an NFTS formatted hard drive. He's also sending me the Xpress Pro HD project.

The questions:
Will I be able to mount the NFTS drive on my OS X v10.4.6
Will I be able to open the project or its bins on my Xpress Pro v4.8 mac?
Will I be able to read the OMF files on the Xpress Pro v4.8 mac?

You should have no problem mounting the NFTS HD.

You should drag the project to your Avid projects folder and it should open up fine, although I have occasionally had to change permissions on the folder.

Transfer the OMF files to a Mac formatted media drive and they should be fine.

In theory it's all supposed to work, but I do this often and find occasional problems with PC folder permissions. I have had some OMF media problems as well, but I have not been able to pinpoint the problem. Occasionally the Mac Avid I use can't read a file or bin for some reason.

Just be aware that you can read NTFS files but not write to NTFS volumes.

Workflow looks like being

1. transfer OMFs to a Mac hard drive
2. copy project across
3. dismount NTFS drive
4. start Xpress Pro and
5. work.
