Does anyone know if 8.6.4 resolved this startup issue?

I haven't installed it. I did glance, however, at the attached readme file and it doesn't mention this or other bugs reported on the forum like the subcaps issue, etc.

Bug appears to persist with 8.6.4, unfortunately.  Looks like I'm stuck on 8.6.1 for now and shopping for new hardware.

I'm having the same issue - again.  MC 8.6.4 hangs right before the project window pops up.  I don't have any Matrox drivers on my computer, so I don't know what the issue could be.  Rolling back to 8.6.1.

Do you have Red Giant Looks (Suite) installed? Try to remove that one....

Multiple startup crashes here on 10.10.5

No BMD, No Red Giant looks, no third party plugins apart from AMA - latest Sony and P2 installed. Tried 8.6.3 and 8.6.4 both crashed on final bit bringing up project window.

Tried: 

Deleting user and site settings.

Rebooting and cold restart (worked a couple of times then failed consistently)

Upgrading to 8.6.4

Only thing that worked was downgrading 8.6.1

It seems fairly stable.

It is obviously something to do with my system but I couldn't tell you what. Perhaps its the AMD video card in 2015 MAcbook Pro mid 2015? Who knows. Working well on 8.6.1 so I'll stick with that until Avid release a fix

Do you have TIFFEN installed? This was for me after a complete new install the case.

Complete strange that AVID send us in the dark with this "update".

So.. the latest version is 8.6.3 and still v. 8.6.1 is the one that is stable enough to work with... Avid, you really need thinking about refunds... we are paying for this...

after updates of tiffen_dfx and composite_pro from dft, my crashes with 8.6.3 went away.

no problems with 8.6.4

Are you using the Matrox MX02 box?  I recall that this was also causing the crash at startup.

no matrox or other i/o_hardware, only tiffen and dft_plugins.

Ah, that's the issue that others (like me) were having.  With Matrox drivers, MC crashed at startup, thereby leaving the output box DOA.

No - no third party plug ins at all. No third party hardware. I also tried deleting AMA database.

Actually the latest version is 8.6.4 - and I'm not sure what is going on with my system for it not to work. Every one else on this thread has specific AVX plug ins or third party hardware drivers. I seem to be the only one with none of those.

I just know I don't want to upgrade the OS (Sierra's not supported yet and I've heard lots of users are experiencing stability issues with it anyway) so 8.6.1 is working I'll leave it until Avid brings out a major release which normally fixes a lot of issues.
