Trying to export media that is both 29.97 fps & 25.00 fps

    Hi,

I am trying to export my reel from Avid. My reel is originally 29.97 fps. I recently came across another project that I edited from a while back but is 25.00 fps. I have added this material to my original reel. ( Now my reel is mixed with 29.97 & 25.00 fps)

What is the best way that I can export my reel with the new addition of material that is 25.00 fps? All and any tips/ guides will be much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

Re: Trying to export media that is both 29.97 fps & 25.00 fps

When you drop the 25fps clips onto the 29.97 timeline a motion adaptor would have been automatically applied to adjust the frame-rate for the timeline. So you just need to export the timeline as a 29.97 quicktime (or whatever format you like) and it should just work.

If you don't like the default motion adapte(i.e. if the clip looks funny somehow when you play it back) you can open the Motion Effects Editor, promote the effect and choose your own settings.

I'm not sure but it may be that converting from 29.97 to 25fps works better than the other way round, so you could try opening your sequence in a 25fps project, right-clicking and refreshing the sequence motion adapters to the new framerate and exporting from there. But if most of your footage is 29.97 then you're probably better keeping it at that rate.

When I've done this in the past I've found that some shots work better than others, depending on the amount of movement. So for a shot with fast movement that looks bad converted I would add an edit on either end, then adjust the framerate so it plays at 1-to-1 frames i.e. slightly faster (112%?) than normal. You'll need to tweak your edit but the shot will look better.

    Hope that helps

Thanks so much for the well detailed and thoughtful response. This definitely worked out and looks normal when playing back the media.

Thanks again ! You rock !
