I have loaded footage from my DJI Osmo, as well as some drone footage from a DJI camera. I try to use different import resolutions, including DNxHD 145. Every option I use looks extremely washed out, also lots of stair-casing and artifacting on the lines. There must be a step I am missing, because it can't be that footage from one of the most popular camera companies can look this bad. Maybe I need a codec?
I shoot in 1080 60p
Any help would be great.
Give this a quick read....

Thanks for the reply Marianna.
I tried this workflow, and it converted the file to something MC friendly, and then when I imported it into MC, it was washed out and looked low-res again. I don't think the problem is the file-type that I am trying to upload, I think it is the resolution or the type of upload settings I am using.
What is the best resolution for upload?
So I tried importing it at 1.1 resolution, which looked pretty good. It creates a massive file for a 20 second clip however. I did a mixdown at 1.1 resolution, and I can't send to sorenson. When I try MS tells me that this feature is currently not supported for larger than HD footage. I shot it in 1080p...
I am hoping I can find a workflow for 1080p footage from camera, to MC, to sorenson, to MP4 file.
Thanks
Can anyone from AVID help me?
I need to proceed with a project, but I can'ty figure this out.
Hi, not from Avid, just an editor ;-) I'm on a project shot with a couple of DJI cameras, among others, and linking the media and consolidating worked pretty well, with no quality loss.
I seem to understand that straight import is to be avoided.

Forget and forgive, that

should read: linking the media and transcoding.
Luca, thanks so much for responding.
If a straight import should be avoided, what SHOULD I do? I'm totally lost here. Any help would be magnificent!
My current workflow is to AMA and transcode Osmo/DJI phantom footage. I don't seem to have a problem witih the footage being washed out (is it being shot in some kind of low-contrast protune setting?). I do have a problem with jittery artifacts in areas of high detail (grass, leaves on trees, water ripples, diagonal lines on buildings).
The issue is to do with editing the Osmo footage in an interlaced project. Editing progressive is perfect, unfortunately since we're using it for broadcast the footage needs to be interlaced at some stage.
I've tried shooting 25p and 50p on the Osmo (the 50p converts to 50i with the correct fields) but I still get the artifacts.
I've also tried converting the footage to interlaced DNxHD quicktimes using FCP/Resolve/After Effects/Sorenson Squeeze but when I bring in the converted clips I still get the artifacts/
I've read forums where people say this is an Avid problem and FCP/Premiere/Resolve don't have it. But since converting the footage doesn't solve the problem I'm not convinced. I have plans to do a proper test with a clip and play it in an interlaced project onto a monitor in each of those NLEs to compare them but haven't been able to do this yet. I'll post my results if I can.
Another local editor I talked to was surprised I had the issue and wondered if the particular camera had a problem, but I get it from all the DJI cameras I get footage from.
So sorry I don't have a solution for you, but I've definitely experienced the same problem and feel your pain!
cheers

My pleasure, and sorry for the late reply, the forums keep not giving me notifications... :-( Import relies on the iffy QuickTime engine, while link and transcode doesn't. Instead of "File-Input-Import", go for "File-Input-Link media", not in front of a system right now to verify the exact command's naming, but I'm sure You'll find Your way around, it's the item close to the import command You're used to, unless You're on an older MC release, providing the "File-AMA link" command instead of "File-Input-etc"; You can link the folder containing the footage, even the top folder containg several subfolders, or link individual files, just make sure that the path is not too long; once the bin is populated with the linked clips, and You can tell it's linked clips because the icon is slightly different from the icon of the imported clips, select all clips and transcode to the resolution of Your choice, I suggest some flavour of DNxHD. That's what I successfully did, the transcoded clips look as they should. If in doubt all this should be covered in the manual, but feel free to ask if You need additional information, reporting which version of MC You're on.
I too am having this probelm trying to import footage from a DJI Phantom 3 Pro.
Camera was set to 1080p 30fps (29.97). I'm importing/transcoding to DNxHD 145 in a 1080p 29.97 project. The footage plays normal for a second then a very slight stutter, then normal, then stutter etc.
I'll try using the link option.
I use many times Phantom 4 footage.
Linking to it and transcoding to the project resolution.
I havent noticed anything strange.
Converted footage looks fine.

If you import your DJI footage into an Avid which has a Nitris box attached the footage look OK. The box must do some extra trickery to the media.
Avid’s 4K playback is not as good as Premiere Pro or Grass Valley EDIUS if you are using native footage (ie footage which has not been converted to Avid’s format). Therefore, if you wish to get the best editing workflow of 4K with Avid, it would be much ideal for you to use Avid’s own 4K codec – DNxHR, which can perfectly handle 4K file sizes. Alternatively, you can choose to edit with the Proxy modes, which helps to drop your footage to a resolution which your system can cope with.
I have a Nitris DX and have the same artifact issues mentioned. All DnX transcodes make everything worse. Working with 4K footage that looks fine in Premiere. Love to find a solution.
