Today I realised that Avid FX doesn't work with MC 8.5.1 any more. I have a small title animation which has do be changed from time to time for a customer. This worked fine with MC 8.5. Now I updated to 8.5.1 and Avid FX keeps crashing as soon as I open the Avid FX editor window whthin MC 8.5.1.
Anyone who has this issue too?
What error do you get if any? Can you send me any crash logs?

Hi Marianna,
the Avid FX editor window comes up and after a few seconds everything goes away leaving the crash report on screen.
See the attachment.

Well, the crash is happening inside the Boris plug-in, trying to manipulate a window… that’s all I can tell other than the crash is external to Media Composer.
Can you use FX externally?
Yes I can use FX externally. I tried with a completely new Avid project but as soon as the FX editor window comes up MC crashes. I guess there are no issues whatsoever with Boris Red for Avid.
But the problem came with MC 8.5.1, so I would think something did change within MC since 8.5.0.
It seems I will have to go with After Effects instead, if this issue cannot be solved; I am not sure I would get the upgrade to Boris Red.
Dear Marianna
Something wrong is only with MC 8.5.x OSX versions. In Windows 7 any MC version works well with AvidFX as a plugin... even latest MC 8.5.2..
Strange...
I know AvidFX is EOL but still very useful blend mode/custom transitions/flexible titling tool...
and until now we successfully shared projects with AvidFX effects in our PC/OSX mixed platform environment.
Could you ask Avid dev team what they changed in OSX MC versions? I'll be very grateful to you...
TT
+1 for this as I still find Avid FX very useful for all the basic stuff MC cannot do!
Ok. Marianna is this weekend and all week at NAB.
Maybe RalphC help us to find the answer: what was changed between MC 8.4.5 and 8.5.x OSX versions that makes AvidFX useless? And why this is limited only to OSX not Win?
bump...
I thought, Avid FX isn't working since Media Composer 8. It crashes with MC 8.5.2 on my Mac, also. That's one reason I'm still working with MC 7 - to use Avid FX (for transfer mode). See also here: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/135415/783764.aspx#783764

I just discovered this too. Avid FX not working with MC 8.5.3. It was working for me on MC 8.4.1. I will have to roll back to 8.4.1 as i have a lot of saved transitions and templates for titles. Bummer.

So was there a resolution to this or all of a sudden Avid FX is dead? Is there a fix available?
The facility I work at is upgrading a dozen suites. I just tested the first suite to be upgraded, particularly worried about our ability to use AvidFX 6.4 This was a clean install on a new drive. The new system is running OS 10.11.4 and Media Composer 8.4.2 and AvidFX worked fine inside Media Composer. And we use ISIS and Interplay. It was a brief test but a positive one. And it was backwards compatible with our current suites. They are on OS 10.9.5 and MC 8.2.5
Our current systems run AvidFX 6.4 very well. Neil.
Neil.
Hi,
I just upgrade to AVID MC 8.6.0 and the AVIDFX 6.4 plugin totally disappear from the plugin menu.
Just need AVIDFX for TRANSFER MODE. So I can't edit previously used effect in older projects.
Did anyones got an idea to fixed it?
Thanks
Jack
Edit Jack.....
Just had a Mac with 8.6 on it... installed 6.4 Avid FX and we see the Avid FX in the Effect palette in the project window. Did you upgrade to 8.6 and not reinstall FX 6.4?
I wouod uniinstall FX and reinstall it again.
