I'm guessing there's no update or time frame for this yet, right?  It's been about 3 months since El Capitan was released.

I woke up this morning and read this thread.

I AM LIVID.

I just purchased a new iMac.  My upgrade from version 5 to version 8 expires soon.  My plan was to upgrade everything so I can get through the next five years to my retirement on MC version 8.  But now I find that I will spend the next five years fighting with two incompatible systems!!!  That was why I bought the upgrade - so everythng would be compatible.

It appears that my options are to back-date my OS or spend more money to get a Media Composer version without bugs.  Neither one is acceptable.

Who do I call to resolve this?

Avid released Media Composer v8.5, with support of El Capitan (10.11.3) today, January 29, 2016.

Fantastic!  But should we wait a while before switching to El Cap just to make sure it works.

It does - you just need to be aware of the following:

If you upgrade to Mac OS 10.11, you must uninstall Media Composer. Reinstall Media Composer after you perform the OS upgrade. If you use Avid Artist DNxIO, you must also uninstall the Desktop Video software and reinstall it after the OS upgrade. 

HTH and I am using MC 8.5 on an El Capitan Macbook right now... and have been for a few days - zippy and working great.
