I didn't look at the Matrix, but the bottom of Page 11 in the Readme does state 10.8.5 is supported.
I will get clarification.

Just found out that Avid updated the Readmes, and in fact, Mountain Lion is no longer supported. Although, I have heard some people were using it during beta testing, but your mileage may vary.
I have updated the announcement post and replaced the README with the current one.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the clarification Kevin!
Side note, Apple just released 10.10.4, just a few days after Avid approved 10.10.3, it's history repeating to be honest...
How about Floating license server users? Do we neeed to do anything besides downloading and upgrading the client applications?
Could anyone speak to the OS, and BMD desktop version needed to run MC 8.4 and the BMD Ultra 4K ?

I read here and there that 8.4 and Yosemite are not best friends on a Mac Pro 5,1 2x6 cores - the one I have. Does it slow down only rendering and consolidate/transcode? Or does it slow down export as well?
8.4 w 10.10.4 12 MacPro still running slow as molasses. Also, partial window in upper left of screen unaccessible. Application taking up to 20 minutes to launch.

Seriously? You're running 10.10.4? After all the hassle of waiting for compatible versions of MC that would work with OSX 10.10.3 that came installed with your computer?
Folks, don't upgrade your OS without checking to see if it's compatible with whatever version of Media Composer you're using first or...you could be the recepient of "unexpected consequences". Software Update is NOT your friend when it comes to OSX updates.

Must think of something clever to go here...
yes. I was told that the next version of MC (8.4), would be compatible with the next version of OSX (10.10.1)..it was just 2 days after the release for godsakes!
Jim Gilson: 8.4 w 10.10.4 12 MacPro still running slow as molasses. Also, partial window in upper left of screen unaccessible. Application taking up to 20 minutes to launch.
20 minutes? Seriously?
I'm still on 10.9.5 but installed 10.10.4/8.4 on a separate partition to see what the fuss is about with that reported problem (I'm on a Westmere 12 Core) and in the few couple of tests, it launches normally. Have you tried a complete reinstall and dedicating a partition solely to Avid MC?
8.4 IS qualified for 10.10.1 (through 10.10.3) - not 10.10.4 (especially because they came out at the same time, practically).
That's why the advice had been to immediately download, but not install, the current OS, whatever it is. I like to download it the day they release - and will do so the day real 10.11 / El Capitan comes out. That way, I have a ".0" version. But whenever you download, you get the current version. If you downloaded a few weeks ago, you would have had a 10.10.3 Yosemite installer waiting, whenever you were ready to use it.
When I'm ready to upgrade to the new OS, usually at least a few months after release, I can install it at point-zero, then install a combo update from Apple's site to get me to whatever version of the OS is qualified for MC at the time. I did that recently with Yosemite and the point-3 release.
this window is stuck in the upper left corner of my screen and I can't get to the buttons to close it.
Try trashing your mcstate file.
