Hi

Since updating to 8.3 Avid constantly crashes whenever I try to ammend or re render Avid FX - does this mean it is no longer totally compatible with Avid and we have to upgrade to Boris?

Anyone else having same issues?

This is really bad. It's affecting pretty well anything I have edited using Avid FX. As soon as I try to open the effect Avid just crashes. Tried duplicating project file and opening in new project. Tried removing render and re render - has only happened since 8.3

I also occurred after installing MC8.3 about 2x crash.
But since then everything still works properly. (about one month).
Avid FX I use quite often.

Seems Boris have us by the short and curlies as I didnt feel I had any option but to upgrade to Red 5.5 which I have now done in desperation. Everything now works fine.

What versions of AvidFX and MC are you running?

You've given us nothing in terms of your system specs either (see how mine are entered into my profile). We often rely on system specs to help identify potential issues when answering posts like this.

FWIW - I migrated to Boris RED 5.5 since MC 8.x because I was having issues with AvidFX in MC 8.x (AvidFX was from MC 7.x). I liked the improvments in RED 5.5 and the $299 update fee was reasonable at the time (for my purposes).

I Updated to MC 8.4.1, start up ok, media playing ok, but playing in timeline LUT FX: Avid crashed , windows crashed seriously to only option manual reboot. Other projects same. Downgraded windows system reset to earlier system point. 

AVID start up MC 8.4.0 all ok except does not play earlier color FX. Had to remove all color fx but crashes on new color FX.

How can I repair AVID to play LUT FX and use color FX in the same timeline?

(errors at Intell RST at start up after reboot, manually restarted)

I will test rendering AVid fx to see if I can crash 8.4.1 on my Windows setup. Noticed when I dragged the Avid FX Filler effect into a clip, I got Avid sttopped working crash. Tried again it wokred, then a few more attempts, opening Media Composer, the new test project and it randomly crashed Media Composer dragging that effect onto a DNXHD clip.

In the mean time I saw that AVID supports a newer NVIDIA driver so I upgraded and rebooted again.

Than I consolidated my timeline which reported several audio and video codecs out of project..

I left them for granted and played the consolidated timeline without problems. Also FX and color FX. For now it seems that it is working again. I will test the problem timeline later because of a deadline. I will keep you posted.

You are welcome Peter, I don't have access to the version 8 as I am not home yet. I will be later tonight and I'll check the render and gpu Nvidia GPU driver that I am running. I am certian I am using the updated Nvidia card for Avid. Leo

Hello Peter,

I added a dnxhd175x 23.976p video clip onto the AVid timeline and added from efects Avid FX Filler onto the clip direct on the timeline. I added an effect, then did export movie quiicktime on my Windows pc setup same as source and no crash.
