I have an edit due soon and a lot of B Roll shot on the Sony RX10 in the new XAVC's codec.
The footage is also 25, 50 and 100p
I have been researching and not sure how I even get this into Prores let alone AMA.
Any news on Avid and this new codec.
Thanks

As far as I know Sony has defined the XAVC's codec as a consumer format and as such has not yet, and may never, release an AMA Plug in for it.
Hi Andrew,
Yep, I have downloaded and installed Catalyst also transfermyvideofiles, and another software package. I was looking for a free soloution? Catalyst has the issue where one clip at a time can only be converted, I have over 500 clips.

I have just updated my Prepare, which I have never use (due to the "No Batch" option and so far not having to deal with XAVC's). With It I found 3 AVI's locally which Prepare opened and is at present happily, but slowly, "batch" encoding to DPX sequences. (first output I found that worked from AVI)
I'll check my version of Catalyst. XAVC's I'm noticing just not with this edit but future edits I have lined up is becoming more common due to the cheap cameras coming out each week. The Sony RX10 XAVCs at 50MBPS looks good, better than AVCHD.
Sadly any manufacturer can come up with "new" codecs these days. Whether they then support the "new" codec in a way some of their customers want to use it or not, is optional.
True
I'm just updating my progress with XAVCS from the Sony RX10. I have tried a few converters and the one from Divergent " EditReady" I have found to be the best for my needs.
The Catalyst Prepare works but is soooooooo slow and I'm mean slow. EditReady is cheeper and fits my workflow.
Cheers
The latest XDCAM plugin supports XAVC-I, not sure if it supports XAVC-L or XAVC-S
XAVC-I is not a consumer format as it is avaiable on the Sony F5 and FS7 pro cameras. XAVC-L is available on the FS7, not sure if the F5 supports it or not. XAVC-S is a consumer format. Folks need to be specific as there are more than three flavors of XAVC if you include UHD and 4K.
Then there is Robert's stock answer #1:
Start in Resolve.
Except I don't believe Resolve supports XAVC-S at this point.
Good Fortune,

What I have to do is use the Play Memories software from Sony to get the XAVCS file of the card and then I need to convert these files into either ProRes or DNXHD.
I have chosen to go with Prores HQ422 as my base codec so the client then has a copy suitable to play on their system. From here I then transcode into DNXHD185 and then edit, finish edit then export back out to Prores HQ422.
Maybe I should just edit in ProRes? I'm on 8.3
There seems to be a few software apps that will convert XAVCS into whatever codec one chooses. These start from $30 upward. Seems to work so far. As I mentioned earlier the cheaper cameras with XAVCS I'm noticing are becoming part of the video production, well for me they are.
Be careful with some third-party converter apps. There are many good ones, but others feature prominently in articles like "Speaking With Spammers."
Thanks for the heads up, I'm fully aware of these spammers and their products so I went with http://www.divergentmedia.com/editready
+1 for the EditReady product. High quality files and fairly quick conversions. Have tried others, those recommended here and that from Sony (Prepare) and so far this $49 program is the winner.
I have sent several emails to Sony to see when a plug-in codec would be available for Media Composer, and got back the following:
More +1 for EditReady - good product, very responsive. I haven't used it for XAVC-S at all, but have been testing it for possible AVCHD and GoPro use. I was seeing some issues with the way AVCHD timecode was translated, contacted their support, and within a day, I appear to have a better-than-before fix in place.
