Ian Nicholson: All joking aside, I'm quite surprised that Avid appears to be behind the 8-ball with Windows 10. It's not as if the release of Windows 10 has been a big secret, and many other software vendors have got their act together in preparation. Avid, if you need testers, let me know. I use MC 8.4 mostly on a non-mission-critical basis at the moment and so wouldn't mind being a guinea pig.

It´s been tested since september 2014 fyi , officially or not , with a dongle license I see no problems myself but mileage might vary , could be one of the reasons to that it isn´t officially supported , everyone is of course free to do their own tests, no need to ask Avid for permission , if things fails you might however be left to fix it all by yourself.

you need to delete the system32 folder in the win directory. works every time.
also: my win10 tab says i'm ready to upgrade when i know there are no drivers for most my stuff.
but hey, anyone can guinae-pig in their spare time. i might if i ever have a day off because: backups.

Ian,
No it wasnt a big secret but then again Mac OS updates arent either. They both make changes and fixes up to the last minute so even thogh we start tetsing the beta like some of you, we have to restart tetsing when the final comes out because they DONT give us that before they give it to you.
they are testing it now and it has a few issues reported in other threads such as

Hi people I asked this question a while ago, but then did my own test. i was a crash test dummy for windows 10,and as fate would have it IT WORKED !!!!
no problems I just took it down last week as the update was releasted. running with the last working nvidia driver, not the NEWEST nvidea driver because it crashed no matter what os. now that beening said, i haven't loaded MC 8.4 and updated win 10 with all the correct drivers (the same drivers with the beta). i'll know later tuesday maybe i'll update if anyone cares
"When Everybody goes Right I Go Left" I Move "Just" a little Different
Well I quess no one cares. But MC 8.4 worked on my system, but just for the record I opened bin and it did load but, I went back to windows 7 because of other programs did't load like Norton,so until it's fixed I'll wait. So is this the prosumer thing,If I have a real problem I'm screwed, so sad!!!
WE care Stephen... honestly we do. :) But I and a lot of others are waiting for the "official" stance from the test guys at Avid before forging ahead
Should I install Windows 10 on my PC? Will AVID run with it or should I wait?
I tried it on my laptop just to see. It was a bad choice. Went back to Win7 64bit Pro SP1. So, I guess my answer to your question is NO! Wait until it is approved by Avid.
Hope this helps,
Denny
Marianna -any news on this? I'm ordering a new system today and I need to know -can we use Windows 10? The system is an HP840 with 32GB ram, based on Spec from Avid. Should I be on Win7, 8 or 10?
Let me check again

Thanks...would be much apprecaited.
Reading between the lines, to me a reasonable assumption would be that Microsoft requires you to have auto update permanently on so that they can make arbitrary changes to the OS to correct for the inevitable shakedown bugs. If you're happy to be a guineapig while Microsoft gets its new OS to where they're prepared to lock it, go ahead.
I think I'll wait.
Seriously folks it is now the end of September and still nothing on Windows 10. I have Protools 12 and would really like to update my computer to Windows 10. Show us windows users some love too! At least give us an idea of when the testing might be nearing completion.

First this is the Pro Video forum - you woud want to post this query to the Pro Audio forum at duc.avid.com
Secondly, I can tell you that our testing teams for both Video and Audio are still working on approval of Win 10 and until the OS and applications work well together along with plug in's and other app's, we cant approve it.
lastly, there are soe that have forged ahead and probably could provide insight into what you might find - but you would need to post on the duc.avid.com
