When releasing RED 5.5, Boris anounced that there is a version 6 coming later in 2014 (with free upgrade for 5.5 buyers), though there is no word about it since. Has something changed?

I wonder if the issue with lack of properly working lighting effects will be finally fixed, especially Lens flare - the Open GL versions of these effects have unsolvable problems with transparancy, that makes these useless in ceratain situations leaving you with no lighting effects at all. I remember I lost a whole day while testing RED and trying to do a certain effect, befeore I realized that I'm not doing antything wrong and this is simply a 'feature' :)

The other annoying issue was no option to properly export content when working outside of Avid: no QT export, AVI limited to 2 GB, leaving only the Targa files option, that was slow as hell.

Why don't you ask them?

I too upgraded to RED 5.5, largely because of the promise of a free upgrade to the next-gen version.  Sure...it isn't here yet, but I assume that Boris will make good on their promise whenever it's ready.  I assumed the upgrade was to coincide with Avid's 4K features ...which weren't even publicly available until Dec 31.  This is a probable reason it didn't get released before end of year.  

9month later - no news.

At a recent Boris Webinar (for BCC) the question about a release date for Red update was asked. It was answered with a gentle tap dance and followed with "it was being worked on and they hoped it would be out before the end of the year."

Um did anyone ask about fair pricing for Avid users as compared to other NLE cost for their products?

any word on v6?

Boris RED 5.6 is updated to support all new OS and Host versions including Win 10, iOS 10.11, Adobe 2015, Avid MC 8.6,  Vegas 13, etc.. Installers are updated as soon as the OS or host update is available. While we are working on the next release, no release date is available at this time.

Anyone heard anything, anything at all? Is this product effectively end of line now? 

RED v5.5 is still for sale on their web site, but at last week’s online seminar I asked and was told that Continuum Complete 2019 has essentially incorporated RED’s functionality. I don’t know if this means that they’ve stopped developing RED altogether, but it certainly looks like they’re more focused on Continuum and Sapphire.

Yes, its officially discontinued - I got such feedback from Boris a year ago.
