    suggestions for zero-latency audio punch-ins with MC7?

Be gentle, community. I should know this, but what are the best solutions for VO capture and punch-in with the newest systems? I certainly can accomplish recording with a laptop and a USB adapter for my cool mics, but no real-time monitoring. The lag between monitor and record gets us all crazy.

I've been using MC since NuBus days and have enjoyed the terrific audio recording capabilities of Avid's systems since 'the old days' of the Avid-L. Loved the real-time audio monitoring/punch-in capability.

I'm currently using a Mojo SDI/MC 6.x system for audio ingest, and am leaping into the early 21st Century shortly with Mavericks and MC7 for our main system. Any suggestions? Portable would be nice.

Only the Avid DX hardware really works correctly.

The 3rd party options are cheaper but vary in terms of features and seamless integration.

So stick with Avid hardware if you want it to al work right.

Thank you Pat for your prompt response.

With the cross-pollination between Avid and Pro-Tools, I can't help wondering if there's a more portable solution than a rack-mount, studio-style installation? I don't need video I/O any longer, but that hard-wired Avid response is hard to beat!

Re: suggestions for zero-latency audio punch-ins with MC7?

    Hi Bill,

I'm not sure if this will meet your needs or not, but I've found that if an audio interface is recognized by Mac OS, that it works as an input in the Avid MC capture tool.

There are some audio interfaces which have their own hardware monitoring, which solves the latency issue for some recording situations.

Perhaps you should look at one of those devices.
