Hey everyone. I'm using MC 7.0 on Mac OS 10.8.5. I'm having a weird situation where the nudge clip shortcut is only working if I'm nudging to the left.
I select the clip with the smart tool (red segment mode). Comma will move clip 1 fr to left, M will move 10 fr. But period and slash don't move it at all. Is anyone else having this problem?
I've checked my keyboard settings and I've not remapped those keys to anything different. They're still set at the default trim 1 fr, 10 fr.
Andy
Turn off the yellow arrow in the smart tool and you should be able to move both ways.
Thanks for the tip. That indeed does work. It's stupid that I can only have the overwrite segment mode active, but it works. It seems like every time avid comes up with something to make editing easier, they do something else to make it harder.
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, but I discovered it a while ago and happy to pass it along.

I'm not talking about nudging a clip in INSERT mode. That doesn't even make sense to me. I'm saying that nudging clips should work irrespective of whether or not the Insert mode tool is active in the smart tool. After all, situational tool usage is the whole point of the smart tool.
The only reason to select a clip and nudge it with the keyboard is so you can slide it's position in the timeline with frame accuracy. That's all I want to do. When I select a clip with the smart tool, that's only what keyboard nudging should do. It shouldn't matter that the insert mode is available on the smart tool when you select a clip to nudge it. It should just perform a nudge. What's so difficult about that? FCP has been doing it for it's entire existence.
BTW, you CAN nudge the clip with INSERT mode active in the smart tool. But it only moves one direction. It's either a poorly thought out feature, or it's broken.

Ok I just encountered this and found this post on a google search. I use the smart tool and would prefer to be able to nudge either way on the timeline but at least I know now
Same issue on AMC 8.3 on a Mac runnnig 10.8.5.
It is very anoying to switch on and off the Insert tool everytime you try to nudge a segment to the right.
This should be solved in upcoming updates
