MC7 same as source slow exports

    Hi,

Not sure anyone can help with this but...

Every year I transcode and export a supid amount of films for a film festival.

I edit the film together in sequences befitting genre and export.

Last year I worked from MC6.5, trancoding all media to DNxHD 90x.  Any differing framerates I dealt with before ingest.  Everything comes out at 25p.

Most of these sequences are around 90mins.

Working from the same iMac (see system specs) with MC6.5 exporting same as source DNxHD 90x would take around 20-25 mins.  A tad longer if I had added some colour adjustment.

This year I'm working from MC7 and the same workflow is resulting in same as source exports taking 2hrs plus.

I'm exporting to external drives (as I have done previously).  Drives are USB 3.0 and previously I have used a firewire 800 connection.  Surely, that can't be the reason for the slowdown?

I would be interested to hear if anyone else is experiencing slow performance when exporting same as source from MC7.0.

Please note that I am using AMA but only to transcode to DNxHD 90x in the bins.  I am not exporting from AMA linked source media.

    Thanks.

Re: MC7 same as source slow exports

    Hello,

same experience here, MC 7.0.2 with Symphony Option.

I only use DnxHD (transcoded from P2), it doesn't matter if it's 720p or 1080p25.

Same as Source Export is much slower then in Symphony 6 or 6.5

Before MC7 it feels like only copying, now it feels like rendering.

Just out of interest have you tried doing a video and audio mixdown first and then a same as source export.

Is the Avid media on a different drive to the exports?

I haven't tried mixing down. Why would I need to do that?

I have tried exporting to the drive where the media files are held and to a different external drive and this made no difference.

i did an export last night - an 80min sequence with DNxHD 90x media took around two and a half hours to export same as source.

I always do a videomixdown, audiomixdown in some cases but not always.

Export same as source is slower then before MC7.

Same drive or other drive makes no difference.

I am on HP Z400 PC.
