BCC users should make sure they have BCC AVX 8.2 installed for all the BCC effects to be properly recognized. The version of FEC AVX used was 7.3 (the most current version of FEC for Avid)

    Re: Free BorisFX BCC/FEC templates

I'm stuck with the install of the free effects.

I've downloaded the BorisFX_AVX zip file. Unzipped this file into a folder named BorisContinuum. I see the folder BCC Overlay Transitions (50FPS).avb

I think that folder must be placed somewhere to let BorisFX find the transitions.

No idea how to go further.

    Please help.

    Re: Free BorisFX BCC/FEC templates

But this question shows up now:

My current project (Bin) is 1080i/50 (Format).

I select the BCC Overlay Transition (50FPS). In MC it reports an error because the Project is 25.

Is this an error in the description? It works however OK with BCC Overlay Transition (25FPS).

That's quite correct.  Any 50i footage is actually 25 fps.  Each frame is made up of two interlaced fields.

A very basic comment I might make which Dirk also mentioned but may not be obvious for novices like myself.  The software verson of MC7.0.2 did not bundle the necessary BCC 8 software to use these free effects from Boris.  I called Boris when I was about to download the free effects and saw what Dirk mentions--must have BCC 8 installed.  Boris person told me Avid now bundles what is called Boris Red with MC7; he said Avid quit bundling BCC with MC after MC6 I think he said (maybe whenever Avid went to 64 bit).  I don't know which FEC version is bundled with MC7.0.2  Dennis

    Dennis,

The "Boris person" missed one fact. Boris  Red is their original application which is rebranded to AvidFX by Avid. They are exactly the same application with 1 small difference.

I explain this in an older free tutorial HERE

It is unfortunate that the post at the start of this thread did not provide more details of the environment needed to get the free templates to function.  But, no harm done, now you know . . . . . . .

In Avid FX there are already some FEC effect filters included, just as there are many BCC filters included. There are also hundreds (maybe thousands) of templates included in Avid FX covering transitions, titles, lower thirds, etc. etc. They are in the Library Browser.

Not meaning to be facetious, but I suggest that anyone looking for templates for Avid FX should first make themselves familiar with the vast library already present there. Also in each effects Control Panel there are many templates available.

I know that it is human nature to want lots of bits an pieces of anything one thinks one might need. I once had the same desire with Fonts. I grabbed and installed every font I ever came across. Had thousands of them at one time - used about 3 of them regularly and maybe another 10 from time to time.  Geeked There is a similar danger with Templates........ get as many as you can . . . . . .  and never use them.

    Re: Free BorisFX BCC/FEC templates

Douglas, You are exactly right (at least as it pertains to me).  I still have not bought your tuttorials on using Avid FX so most effects I already have sit in their bins while I focus on getting the video/audio content itself as good as I can. I must admit, however, to being captivated by FREE and thinking maybe some day I might need this and if I can get it for free....    Regards, Dennis

    Re: Free BorisFX BCC/FEC templates

Seeing how someone else made up an effect (such as these) is yet another way to educate yourself on something you might not already know.  Whether or not you use them in a video, you can look into them to see how they're made and learn quite a lot.

Geeked As a Scot, Dennis, I often get caught by that idea as well.

Nowadays I am very wary of "Free", "Lite", "Smart" etc. named products.

There is an idea that you can learn from templates as to how you can build up your own effects.
This is true in part. That is why I have made a tutorial 12_08 (on Gaijin-Eyes" with the name, "Dissecting some Eye Scream Factory Presets and using the parts in your Text FX"

But in order to be able to dissect another's work you must first have the knowledge of how to use the application. In this case Avid FX. A person who has little or no knowledge of the basic workings of Avid FX is unlikely to be able to see how a template has been built up and to utilise it in making new effects.

There are many pros and cons around the whole topic.

I don't understand how anyone could have the opinion that informing users about these templates was doing them some disservice.  If you want the free templates, download them.  If you don't want them, don't download them.  If you download them and never use them, that's perfectly OK.  You're under no obligation to either download them or to use them.  I would have thought that was clear already. Big Smile

    smyers63:

? I don't remember anything that I said like that.

I did say, "It is unfortunate that the post at the start of this thread did not provide more details of the environment needed to get the free templates to function.  But, no harm done, now you know . . . . . . ."

In the follow the next post Dirk did say, "BCC users should make sure they have BCC AVX 8.2 installed for all the BCC effects to be properly recognized. The version of FEC AVX used was 7.3 (the most current version of FEC for Avid)"

But some people, like Dennis, were quick off the mark before they knew the environment needed to use the templates and had already downloaded started to try them.

Of course, I should also have added that it was a shame that Dennis did not read carefully before he tried to install them.

Talk about a storm in a teacup. I must try to remember not to make such comments so readily in the future. Geeked

Hey smyers63, have a look at this website that does some hip templates and presets for Avid https://fxsyndrome.io

They have a Boris CC option and a No-Plugin option. Share it with the community if you find it interesting.

    Thanks,
