Hello,
I have so far not been using the new features in MC7 (DMF services, background transcoding etc), but after seeing some tutorials about it I think they would be useful to me.
I upgraded from MC 7.0.0 to MC 7.0.2 following the instructions given i.e. first uninstall MC7.0.0 using “Avid Uninstall” app and then install MC7.0.2.
After I have opened MC7.0.2 I tried to transcode in the background, but I received an error message saying: “The Media Service Engine was unable to make a connection”. Transcoding the usual way (i.e. not in the background) works.
I have tried to start the “Background Services” in the tools Menu, but when I click start I don´t have any feedback whatsoever. I don´t have any Icons in the menu bar to start and stop these services either.
I read on the forum that it was important to uninstall the previous version of MC7 completely, so I uninstalled MC7.0.2 again with Avids uninstall app, and after that I used an app to look for ”leftovers” and I deleted all such files. Then I reinstalled and started MC7.0.2 with the same result.
I uninstalled MC7.0.2 again and installed MC7.0.0 again, but also this version show the same result.
I have also tried to start the DMF services but I receive the message: “DMF service is offline”
What am I doing wrong? Can anybody tell me what to do before I start to install MC7.0.2 again?
Regards,
Christer
The system tray short cut to the Avid services shows them black when not active. Green when active (and I think red if in error but that could be wrong)
The status of the Avid services can also be checked in the normal way by right clicking on the bottom tool bar in windows and selecting start task manager and then choose services.
You should see the Avid Editor Transcode service (and it will show if it's running or stopped)
You can also manually start and stop thsoe services by right clicking my computer and choosing manage.
Then click services and applications and then services.
Here again you will see the AVid Editor transcode service listed and it's statuis and you can manually start or stop it.

Dear Pat,Thank you for your reply to my post, but it seems like you referring to MC on a MS Windows system, and I am using MC on a MacBook Pro system. They should of course work the same way, but since I don´t have so experience on Mac I am not sure how to do the tests you suggest. However, my problem is that I can not start "Avid's Editor Service Manager" since there is no short cut in the menu bar on my Mac (upper right screen), and if i try to start it from inside MC (Manu->Background Services) nothing happens. This process don't seem to be running or exist on my installation.I have seen one post on Avid's forum about one who have the same problem on a MS Windows system, but it was fixed by uninstalling and reinstall. I have tried this 3 times first using Avid´s Uninstall App and then installed the software according to Mac standard procedure, but it did not help.It seems like I am alone with problem this since no one have made any comments. If anybody have it, it would be very obvious.I would be very thankful if you or someone else could help me to solve this problem.Best regards,Christer
I am having the same problem after installing v7.3 How do we turn on editor sevice manager? Please help!
Chris
I really would like to help you, but I can not since I never got the service manager to work with MC7.0.1 or 7.0.2 on my Mac. I did not even had the Service Manager icon shown up in the menu bar and it could not be started from inside MC.However, after I have installed Maverick and MC7.0.3 on my Mac the Service Manager icon is there!Unfortunately, it still don´t work since after I have started the Service Manager it shuts down after about 30 second by itself!!! This Service Manager was a major feature in MC7 so it is really disapointing that it don´t work.I have sent a post about both of these problems, but nobody seem to have any help to provide. Maybe only you and me experience this problem???
I have a similar problem. I haven't been about to ge the Dynamic Media Folders working on my system. It says that the AVID Background Services are running but if I right click the AVIDSMFSupportSvc icon - it says the application is not running.
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
BEST,
VIRGINIA
