I want to apply a "blending" or "transfer" mode to a title that will be above a video clip. I understand there are no blend modes in MC, however I read that the AvidFX filter has a provision for blending modes.
I tried to drag and drop the AvidFX filter to a title but it didn't work. I tried Option-dragging and that did work! (i don't know why though)
However, when I apply the effect to the clip, go into the interface, click on the Composite tab and select a blend mode I want (Overlay, for example), the filter seems to apply the blend mode to the underlying video track and not just the title.
Why is this happening? Is there any way to use the AvidFX or some other method to "blend" titles with underlying clips on the timeline?
Honestly, I'm surprised as a new user to learn that MC doesn't have a simple blend mode option for all clips (video, text, image, etc..) in the timeline. In FCP or Premiere Pro, this was 2 second operation....
Thanks for any assistance!

My Best Guess would be to replace the existing title in your timeline an Avid FX on filler and remake the title in Avid FX with blend mode.
Or place Avid FX on the video layer above the Title and add the blend effect to the Video layer in Avid FX with the Title on it. (Remember Avid FX numbers the video tracks differently to the Avid Timeline)
Douglas eill probably chip in here with a better option!

Hi ,
i did a video to show what i mean :
https://vimeo.com/101611724
so the blur itself behaves like an adjustment layer wenn he is placed above all layers.
i hope that the video is good for clearing this out....
kind regards peter
And here is the
apply "hard light" blending mode to a text layer video
i hope this helps

And what about these tutorials, still available:
AvidFX tutorials
Search for 135 and further....
If you take some time and do some AvidFX tutorials, you will see that you get familiar with this tool.
You might need Firefox to play the tutorials.....
