Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

    Hi everyone,

I started my own post about this issue, because I'm a moron ;-)

YES please please Avid change the keyframes back to the way it used to be.

Editing audio in dual mono is a nightmare now - takes forever.

If I make keyframes at the same time, PLEASE make them move together, just like they have ALWAYS done.

Here's what I said in the other thread I started by mistake:

Why is avid removing keyframe functions that we have been relying on for years and years? :)

I'm yet to edit for a TV show that uses stereo tracks for all stereo audio - everyone is still using dual mono (particularly for 'audience' tracks on multicam shows, as they are part of Group clips).

And yet Avid seems to be purposefully made keyframe audio editing more difficult for Dual Mono. :-(

If you create a keyframe for a bit of music (ie. it puts a keyframe on both tracks), they then are treated as completely separate, so require lassoing or adding mark in/outs around them to move. So two extra key clicks EVERY TIME we want to move a keyframe.

I don't know about other reality cutters, but we have to do our own mixes throughout the day - so this is a huge impact on time. I have 50+ keyframes on most cuts.

I know many other editors on large network shows in LA who are finding this impacts their daily speed. Anyone else?

I realise that most editors I know also don't use these forums, but I'm still surprised there isn't a bigger backlash against this. Or perhaps I'm using the wrong words to search these forums? :(

    hey everybody

    count me in.

it has become an absoloute nightmare to work with audio keyframes, in my eyes nearly unusable now. one more reason why I will roll back to MC5.5 if I ever find the time to do so between two gigs. installing MC 6.x was just a waste of time.

I just upgraded to 6.5 over the weekend. After a day of fighting the new workflow it feels like I've crossgraded to FCP by mistake and my work is now much slower.

I am going back to 6 and will probably stay there until this keyframe nonsense is fixed.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

I might be in the minority, but I love the new audio workflow and wouldn't go back to the old way ever. It takes a bit to re-learn all your muscle memory, but the new functionality is way more flexible than the old one and allows you to make custom adjustments that you just can't make pre-v6. I agree that working with dual mono tracks is (and has always been) more difficult than it should be, but after spending 8 months doing full time 5.1 mixing in MC6.5, I think the improvements in keyframing far outweigh the inconvenience of re-training yourself in how it works.

Just wanted to repeat, since it's now a couple pages back in this thread, the keyboard marking to define a region for global audio KF adjustment was restored in 6.5.2. Still hoping that parallel marking and adjustment of the same KF across multiple audio tracks gets restored in MC 7.

I did an upgrade from 5.5 to 6.5 and miss the function
set multiple keyframes at the same position on several selected audio tracks by touching a single key frame also.
It is like throttle and brakes are inverted in a Car.
I have worked for 18 years with Media Composer and have the impression that the basic functions are more complicated lately
    or no longer work reliable.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Just wanted to lend my voice to the issue.  I also upgraded to 6.5.2 and am now returning to 6.0.3.3.  Love the ability to monitor more than 16 audio tracks and the ability to move non-contiguous clips without selecting filler.

    BUT

I can't work efficiently without the ability to adjust audio keyframes on multiple tracks simultanously.  Trying to lasso the keyframes you want to adjust is maddening.  Most of the time I'm trying to lasso keyframes at the head of a clip and I get thrown into trim mode.

Kudos for trying to be innovative but this is an example of "if it ain't broke don't try to fix it".  Please restore this lost functionality.

While I'm at it here are two other requests:

1 - the mixer's way too big when monitoring 16 tracks (and some of us do that all the time).  Just add the option to hide the individual track level meters and have the window shrink when you turn them off.

2 - I really miss the ability to alt+click the pan window to instantly center pan a track.  I also miss being able to gang two tracks together and alt+click to center pan them both in one fell swoop.  In short, please stop making software "enhancements" that add more mouse clicks and keyboard commands to accomplish what used to be simple one-click operations.

    Brian:

While I agree with everything you've said elsewhere in this post, I should point out that now instead of ALT clicking on the pan window, as of 6.5.2.1, you now ALT click on the pan knob to set mid. Essentially, the same amount of time, just a slightly different place to ALT click.

I couldn't agree more, this is driving me insane. Also, before 6.5, if you had inserted one keyframe into a master clip track, and then had to do pull-ups within that clip, you could mark in/out and drag the one keyframe up or down and all the pulled-up segments would follow it even though they didn't have keyframes. Now, the only way to accomplish this is to add keyframes to EVERY SINGLE PULLED-UP SEGMENT, many of which are frequently tiny phrases in an interview. This tedium is driving me even more insane than the dual mono tracks issue. Avid, PLEASE restore these basic keyframe workflow methods that I have relied on daily since rubberbands were implemented many versions ago.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Just wanted to add to my previous post - not only can't you change the level without adding keyframes to every segment, but when you drag them each one is still attached to the original keyframe, which is now hidden for each segment! Now I have to go in and delete the hidden keyframe in EVERY SINGLE SEGMENT! Otherwise each segment gets its own little ramp towards the hidden keyframe instead of a nice straight line. I hope I'm not the only one who is very frustrated by this. I do a lot of detailed audio work and this loss of functionality is making my life MISERABLE. Thanks for listening.

I've just verified on my MacBook Pro that this funtion has been reinstated in MC 7.0.2

All working with Mark IN and Mark Out and moving and deleting keyframes as a region.

Lassoing also working as an option too.
