    Batch import XDCAM errors

I'm having a lot of issues trying to batch import a sequence of XDCam proxy to upres. I've tried both Mac and PC workstations (Symphony & Media Composer) running v5.5 connected via both fibre and ethernet to our Unity. On the Macs, Avid will ask for the discs one by one, mount them, then reject them. At the end of the batch, I get the notification "0 clips imported." The console says "Volume U is unmounted" or "Volume is unmounted."  On the PCs, I get an error message (screen shot attached). If you click continue, Avid returns to the project. If you click debugger, Avid crashes. I'm trying to import from the Sony U1 drive, all the software drivers are up to date. I've also tried setting the capture drive to the local drive, that yielded the same results.

I'm on deadline! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Batch import XDCAM errors

I had issues last weekend trying to batch import XDCAM from the PDW-U1.  Someone on the forums had suggested doing an AMA link to the XDCAM media.  It worked for me.  Here's what I did.  Definitely have "Disk Label" as one of your columns of info in your bin view.  Contrary to what I would have done in the past, I did not decompose my sequence when starting this process.  Also of note, I'm running 6.01.

    1) AMA link your hi-res clips.  For me, the Avid automatically created a bin named "untitled" and AMA linked the contents of the first XDCAM disk.

    2) I moved any relevant offline master clips for this first disk into the "untitled" bin.

    3) Next, I selected these offline master clips and their coresponding AMA clips and hit relink.

    4) In the relink dialogue box I selected "Allow relinking to Imorted/AMA media by source file name" - check the box for version separator and enter "S" in the box beside it.  I also selected "Any HD media" & "highest quality".  Pretty sure I had deselected "Relink only to media from current project".  The version separator is what allows you to relink the low-res clips to the hi-res.  There's a pretty clean explanation for what the version separator does in the help menu, but basically the Avid will ignore any characters after the "S" in the clip name ie: proxy clip C0001S01.

    5) I made use of assigning a specific clip colour to the newly relinked master clips and did a quick spot check in the timeline to make sure that there were what I had expected them to be.

    6) I selected my timeline and hit "Consolidate"

    7) The only option I selected in the consolidate dialoague box was "Skip media files on target drive" and whatever length of handles you like.

    8) Once the consolidation was done, I moved my original unconsolidated master clips back into their original bin and closed the "untitled" bin.  Minimized the Avid and then ejected the XDCAM disk by right-clicking and selecting "eject disk" - I did not use the eject button on the PDW-U1 itself.  I found that if I didn't close the bin, the Avid wouldn't give permission for the disk to be ejected.  I then stepped back into the Avid, inserted my next disk and Avid populated my "untitled" bin again with the clips on this second disk.

Hope this makes sense and works for you.

    Re: Batch import XDCAM errors

I know this is an older post, but having run into the same issue, we made an important discovery. Media Composer 5.5 and up, including Sympony 5.5 and 6 have an issue batch importing from XDCAM.

Jason's solution is sound and functional, but doesn't replace the effeciency of a batch import on a long format show.

We created a dual boot on our load station, 1 running Lion and MC6, the other running Snow Leepord and MC5.08

Mc 5.08 has no issue with batch import from XDCAM and will load sequences from MC5.5 or 6 without issue.

It was a bit of a pain to set up, but now that is running it saves a ton of time and will work until Avid can resolve the XDCAM issue.

    Re: Batch import XDCAM errors

We have the same problem. We have 1 system still running v5.0 so that we can batch import our footage from XDCam. We first noticed the problem in v5.5 and hoped that the upgrade to v6 (and eventuall 6.0.1.1) would have fixed it. No luck! Let's get this fixed Avid!!

Without network srorage attached I have not had problems with batch importing XDCAM or XDCAM HD with any PC version of Avid since version 2.5 or when ever SD XDCAm first arrived. Batch imported 8 disks with MC 6.0.1.1 yesterday. I have stayed with Sony version 2 software as the version 3 caused problems with importing graphics.

The only time I had problems with it was MC5 on Mac and Repair Permissions solved that.

Well, I'm on version 6.0.1 with a brand spankin new computer, a brand spankin new Isis, and I am still having the same issues! "0 clips imported" - "Volume U is unmounted." Has there been a fix yet? This is unacceptable.
