    16:9 Film Masks

I don't know whether this has been mentioned before (couldn't find anything about it) but I would really like Avid to update the Film Masks to the actual 16:9 format. It has been at least 4 years ago since I had anything to do with 4:3 and I'm pretty sure I will never ever have to worry about 4:3 again. So please Avid adjust the the old 4:3 stuff to 16:9.

    Thanks!

    Please don't.

There are still countries that require 4:3 deliverables and I imagine that will still be the case in years to come. Add more but don't lose what we have.

As an aside I love the reformat option on AMA sources if you make sure you correctly flag them as 4:3 or 16:9. If you set it to pillerbox/letterbox and then show a student how changing you project aspect automatically applies the correct correction it;s really cool.

I dind't mean to get rid of something that might be still in use but would rather want to have all 4:3 effects automatically switched to 16:9 when working inside a 16:9 project. For example adding a 1.85 film mask to your 16:9 footage can be a real pain when all aspects are adjusted for 4:3 aspects. You can only guess what might be the right size or, as I did, create your own mask in photoshop. If I am working inside a 16:9 project it doesn't make too much sense to have all aspect effects adjusted for 4:3. Switching to 4:3 when working in a 1080 HD project is not possible (which wouldn't make any sense anyway), so why would I need to have 4:3 effects in there?

    Re: 16:9 Film Masks

I thought I might give this request another try after 10 years. The film masks are still based on 4:3 aspect ratios even when working in 16:9 ratio projects. I assume no one really cares about this but I also assume that this must be a super easy fix, no?

Have been asking about this for years. It's quite silly.
