Cool. Sounds like another one of those gotchas that you never expect with computers. Glad the solution came through, thanks for posting it. cheers

The alternative way to backup your data would be to consolidate the clips to a media drive, then export an aaf of the bin with the media in a folder that you could archive on a separate drive. Or keep the disks in a fireproof safe like we do! cheers

There's an old discussion on this here but near the bottom it looks like someone did have success using a U1 drive. The record tab on the disk isn't flicked is it? I was unable to copy using a V1 reader, but with the camera I was able to do it. Since the camera isn't available all the time I changed my workflow and gave up using AMA permanently
the BBC way. Far more controllable, though you do have to set the settings up first: - First, layer up V1 and V2 as normal, ready to cut-out your 'shape'. Then apply the 'BCC Make Alpha' effect to V2 (in the ‘BCC Keys & Matte’ tab). - Now, at the top of the Effects Editor, from the

Just to add to Larry's sound advice, after you have copied your media files to your new drive, I suggest leaving the old ones on you internal drive where they are, but rename them (maybe just add "_OLD" to the name, i.e. Avid MediaFiles_OLD). This will effectively hide them from the Avid software, but you can keep them till you're

Ah! The XDCAM EX Clip Browser from Sony actually converts them to MXF files that Avid can read. But it's a bit late for that, perhaps. Although you could actually test this as a workflow. If you got the Clip Browser software, and used the Export MXF for NLE function then it makes files that Avid imports, the same as it would have imported the original

much nicer. maybe Avid can change the Mac version to put the files in their own folder.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but could you clarify please. All those AMAlogger files need to be left alone (i.e. not deleted) or else I'll lose the connections to my AMA media, right? What will happen if I did delete them all? Would they be recreated when I open the bin my AMA media is in? Just that on the Mac (don't know about PC) they
Or lets look at it another way... Why "online" with FCP? Why not finish the job on MC? If it's about budget aren't you half way
This is true. The easiest thing to do would be to batch import the files at high res on the Avid, then if you really need to go to Final Cut (say, if you have access

Just that something very odd is going on. What settings are you using to export the file? If you change any of them( particularly I'm thinking you could use a different audio compression setting), what happens then? Just to confirm, you say that it plays correctly on you desktop (what program? quicktime? vlc?), but when you import it back into MC
