• Re: Media Composer 8.5.3 - missing output to DV device

Thanks for checking on this Dave. Apologies for the late response - my original post was while finishing a project just before vacation, and I only returned today :) I'm downloading the newest version of MC right now - if there are any changes to what we've discovered in this thread, I will post them.

I am also noticing that my SD timelines when working with DV material are now 720x486, and I can no longer change them to 720x480. The effect aperture setting still exists in the General setting under preferences, but it is missing when you create a new project and does not seem to make any difference to the timeline if you change it after creating
How can HDV workflow not be in the smoke and fire test MC must have gon through prior to release?
I agree, though I think it's been forgotten about for a while. For example: -6.5.3 couldn't capture from fw with audio (but who needs audio, right?). Fixed in a patch. -7.0.4 won't let me import more
I'd rather they allowed more control over what type of precomputes you can delete on mass.
Pat, are you saying MC should differentiate between a file created by rendering a sequence, and all other precomputes? That would make this much, much easier. In my mind, I don't see the alpha channel of an

Or why there is no "Delete Unused Precomputes" button...Avid, you own code in a previous piece of software that can do this. RIP Liquid.

And I don't really mind paying yearly for software updates, even if I'm unsure of the outcome. But I do want to know why I am forced to buy the included "support." The Avid Community IS Avid Support. • Re: Speeding up video and audio in sync.

You can accomplish this in Avid, but it requires two effects - one on the video, one on the audio. Use the Timewarp on your video track, and set the speed to your liking. Then apply the Time Compression/Expansion effect from the Audio Suite on your audio track. To set the audio clip ratio, you need to take 100 and divide by your video's new Speed

Dennis, The Squeeze person is correct - they do not include the full version of the Avid Codecs with any version other than PRO. However, any PC or Mac with Media Composer installed will already have the full version of the Avid Codecs, which let you encode from any program that will export to Quicktime. This includes Squeeze, Quicktime Pro, and Adobe

What version of Squeeze are you on? I've been able to make a custom QuickTime preset to encode DNxHD with the Avid bundled Squeeze application since Squeeze 7. If you're still on MC 6.5.xx, you still have the bundled Squeeze 8, right? One word of caution - this works well EXCEPT for frame rate conversions. Don't try to convert 29.97fps material
