  • Re: CPU power for Avid, more cores or more clock?

Last year I bought a refurb Z840 from Teksavers in Texas and it works great. They configured it for avid even though not a avid reseller. I just sent them the config docs. I (128GB ram, RTX2060 super)

I assume you've looked at Avid's configuration docs about configuring RAM and a few other settings. (I sent those to the HP refurb HP vendor and they configured it accordingly.) In the past I would have gone with something like the RTX4000 but budget restraints led me to the GeForce RTXs like 3070, 3080 etc. In older systems like discreet edit

I recently bought a refurb HP Z840 here in the states and have been very happy. As for cards Avid tends to support Nvidia Quardo series cards. I was about to spend $2,500 on an awesome Quadro RTX5000 card when I heard about the GeForce RTX 20XX Super series, which technically is not supported but there's a well known integrator who sells a ton of

  • Re: Avid Editor Db Engine service fails to run- I'm clueless, help !

Have you tried to deleted the dB and let Avid rebuild? (Before deleting I rename those 2 items as .OLD so I still have them, although it may be mute point in your case, but doesn't hurt.)

  • Re: Graphic Card Advantages

I went "off the range" and replaced my Quadro M4000 with a Nvidia RTX2060 Super and it works fine even though it's not officially supported. I was going to spend silly money on a Quadro and after seeing the Pudget Systems are filled with these RTX20XX and now RTX30XX systems that they must be OK. I had an unofficial, off-the-record, endorsement

  • Re: Custom Built PC for Avid MC

What is your budget? Have you checked out refurbs from TekBoost in Texas? Good prices on refurb custom boxes. Personally I'd go with Intel over AMD. A nvidia rtx2060 super may be cheaper. Nominal difference for avid on that card. I bought a refurb from them and got a new card and put it in. They still will honor 3 year warranty. I also sent them

  • Re: Finally ready to upgrade - advice??

I just bought a loaded, refurb HP Z840 for $2K and I added a Nvidia RTX2060 Super, (I'd go with a RTX30XX card now). RTX's aren't officially supported though. There's some Quadro cards out there if you want to be on an approved box. Check out Teksavers, 512-6 63-5764. The Z840 is a nice upgrade from Z400 or Z800s. They have a configuration

I was having trouble logging in here but it's working now. But yes, the rs422 side needs a proper rs422 cable, which it kinda looks like you have in that black cable coming off the turnaround. And I'd try to reduce adapters in the chain. I'm in the middle of a big tape capture and I had to dust off the cob webs to remember how. What would

Yes you would use the crop filter in Squeeze.

What compressor do you use? If you edit with a mask or screen markers as a normal 1080 file and you probably want to be 608 width if this goes to any type of MPEG. (multiple of 16 required). So edit as usual but you wont care about the sides much and then export your QT file. Take it into your compressor then crop 656 of each side to get to 608x1080
