I'm confused - Avid FX and Boris Red (which were both the same app) both launched the same way as you describe. Nothing changed between the two versions in that respect. Red 5.6 has more realtime effects than the Avid FX version.

I dont know why there isn't a 1440 x 1080 preset any more except that you don't really need one. HDV images are 16:9, but squeezed horizontally into a 4:3 raster (ie the pixels aren't square), hence 1920x1080 becomes 1440x1080 Just choose a 1920x1080 project preset and MC will adapt the HDV footage to fit.

I just rebuilt me system (edit 1 in specs), and when I came to re-install BCC8.2 (which I use occasionally) I can no longer activate it because it is 'old'; so it is running in trial mode. Boris support want $100 to send me an unlock code. Just be aware.
