• Re: Alert issue with QuickTime for Windows..?

I often use the "Quicktime Same as Source" export in Avid to quickly output a file in my current DNxHD format for use in other software. If I uninstall quicktime, will this option still be availalbe, or does this require QT to be installed on the system? Assuming that this will not be available without Quicktime installed, how would I accomplish

I'm still really fuzzy on what we're supposed to do at this point. I "thought" that avid needed quicktime installed in order to actually function -- is this not true? Can MC users (8.4 in my case) safely uninstall quicktime from the system without effecting general functionality? If so, will certain aspects of MC still be effected

  • Re: Deleting precomputes for specific effects in timeline.
I do not know a partial delete for a specific effect. However, what you can do is delete render files for a specific clip. Just mark the clip and press CNTRL + T to select in- and out-points at the clip's beginning and end. Now you can right click in the timeline and select delete render in-out. An even easier

  • Deleting precomputes for specific effects in timeline.

Is there a way to selectively delete the current precompute for a specific effect in the timeline? I'd like to be able to select the actual clip in the timeline -- like you can select it when in effect mode -- and delete the current precompute for that exact effect. It's way too hard to do this with the Media Tool since I have a whole bunch

They're talking about the resolution of the video when they say 4k, not the GUI display. Avid can output 4k to a 4k monitor but not scale the actual application interface to a 4k monitor, hence, icons become stupidly small.
What he said! I really need to clarify my responses
Nikos, MC 8.5 is not compatible with 4K monitors. This is documented.
All that talk about support for higher resolutions (4K, UHD) for the past year and a half, and you can't use MC on a 4K monitor??? What am I missing here -- that seems really bizarre to me. L

  • Re: Any way to rename "filler" clips on timeline?

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. It's too bad that you can't just right click on a clip in the timeline and "custom name" it, with another option to "revert to original name." That would be a really convenient option on this particular project. Oh well -- I just went

The downside of that (if I understand you correctly) would be that you couldn't just glance at the timeline and see the shot names for all the clips, which is the behavior I'm after. L

  • Any way to rename "filler" clips on timeline?

I have a project made up almost entirely of clips that are created in Red/AvidFX. The Red effects are simply laid in between edit points on the timeline, at which point they all become named "filler" in the timeline. Is there any way to rename these so that they'll appear as unique shots on the timeline? I only know how to rename clips

Am I missing something here?
In the Project settings there is an option to Generate Safe levels levels that are safe for broadcast. For example, Boris RED filters allow RGB values across the full 0-255 range. When Generate Safe Levels is selected, the RGB values are limited
