Get RivaTuner, go into the OpenGL stuff, and set your version string override to 1.5. Stopped Avid crashing on startup for me and FSP works great.

Working between applications, ie taking footage on the round trip to After Effects has some traps for younger players. Best codecs, methods of keeping alpha happy, colour management (RGB/601/709 shennanigans etc), and how to maintain good media management while you're doing it.

Randall is correct. I believe the composer window is limited to about 50% of the height of your shortest screen. Which is really freaking annoying if you're using a lower res display for full screen playback, your composer window ends up really small. I've whined to this one about Avid via a few channels and had no response.

Weird, it puts all 4 cores to use on my system. No idea what could be stopping it doing so on yours... (I don't have the HP system, mine's a custom build with a Q6600).

A minor annoyance - there's really no need for Avid to pause starting up every time to ask me if I want desktop composition disabled under Vista - that really needs a "Don't ask me again" checkbox. Or is there already a way to get Avid to not bother asking and just get on with it?

Woah that sounds good. What framerate are you using? Where do your m2t files come from? Do you use a HDD recorder or are you capturing from tape to an external app? Does your audio stay in sync once you've imported into Avid? That's the key problem I keep hitting...

Oh you poor thing. 720p25 HDV is theoretically fine for your offline, it's lower bitrate than DV as a matter of fact, but good luck getting it captured. JVC HDV + Avid = bad joke. After years of pressuring them and even being involved with some beta testing along the way, I've pretty much given up on Avid supporting JVC HDV with any reliability. I'm capturing externally and transcoding to DNxHD before fast importing into MC. It's a pain in the ***, but at least I get to edit the lovely footage my HD100 shoots.
