Someone wrote "SATA and eSATA are exactly the same. The only difference is the plug." I am completely aware of that. lol I was asking how Windows or a computer recognizes an internal connection (which in this case is SATA) versus an external connection (which in this case Esata) and how that affects the vulnerability of the hard drive to a virus? Obviously

Well I know lots of others have said this but I'm finally convinced it's time... I'm off to give Edius 4 a solid trial run.

I've just sent an e-mail to Marianna asking for some kind of word. Clearly there is some kind of answer they could give us because there's beta testers around who seem to know things they can't tell us. That's crap. We've been waiting far too long to put up with coyness.

I heard that's the date they're announcing 720p25 support

I don't think moving to Linux is really a feasable solution. Not for me anyway - I rely on too many Windows apps (like all the Adobe ones for starters). Would be great if they offered it as a solution, but they seem spread a bit too thin with 2 platforms let alone having to cater for 3 (tho moving over to Intel on the Mac side will no doubt cut down

There's no such thing as a G5 Intel. A G5 is an old school PowerPC CPU, the new Intel machines have Xeon processors. The Mac Pro is indeed a beefy machine, but there's no reason you couldn't build something (or buy a Dell machine) that is just as beefy (just without the ability to run OS X). I'm not sure anyone has got Avid running under XP on a Mac

For an experiment I got Xpress Pro going under Vista RC1, and it worked surprisingly well , sans sound. Mite give it another crack with the final release at some point.

It's February. We're nearly half way through that mythical Q5. Can we please get some sort of update? We're not going to have to wait until NAB to hear anything are we? Is it going to be in 5.7 or are we going to have to wait til 6.0?

I imagine moving Avid to Vista will require some fairly large underlying tech changes (given a lot of the tech Avid relies on works quite differently under Vista), so I can't see a Vista'd Avid coming any time soon. Perhaps Xpress Pro 6 but I doubt it. I'm hoping they do move at some point tho and take advantage of WinFX & XAML to make the interface
