  • Re: Is Avid listening to their customers?

There's no need to patronise, I'm not completely naive. But is that the new response to the 720p25 issue? "DO YOU HAVE IT IN WRITING?" That's really quite pathetic. Yeah, all we have is a shitload of quotes from Avid reps and an Avid logo plastered on the HD100 box, but is that how it works at Avid? Are they politicians now? Can they reneg on promised

It's hard to "have faith" when the answer is always either "tomorrow" or "wait and see". And this is the only place where we seem to get some kind of communication - even if it's sparse - so no, we're not going to go elsewhere. and when the time has come i need something they can't offer? i go out and get what does give me that regardless of the name

  • Re: The 720/25P "where is it?" thread

Amen. All we have to go by is rumours and heresay - which used to be summed up as "definitely coming soon", and it's now "maybe one day but probably not". Or do we have to wait until the NAB beauty pageant?

Why is it Avid is more interested in looking flashy at NAB than actually communicating with its userbase?

  • Re: graphics software

If you just need to do some movement in 3D space of basic stuff like text, After Effects is what you need. Certainly what you want for 2D animation. Photoshop's definitely your main port of call for graphics creation. You may want to try using it in conjunction with Illustrator - I don't use it myself but pretty much every graphic designer does, it

Avid have somewhat tarnished their reputation (at least for me) lately with their unbelievably bad handling of support for 720p24/25 HDV1 & 720p50. Communication has gone steadily downhill, and all the communication we've had has always turned out to be rubbish anyway. Sure Avid listens to you, unless you're using JVC or Panasonic stuff in PAL land

  • Re: LIVE Capture???

I don't think it's a supported feature but you can capture from a single source in realtime, I've done it quite a bit. You just need to switch your timecode capture to Local. You can only capture from a single device tho - your vision switching would have to be external. I imagine you'd have no trouble capturing analog video live through a Mojo, but

Looking at the list of readme's this is largely to keep Xpress Pro version numbering in line with their other lines. Does include a few fixes but of course nothing in the realm of new resolutions. Or even a PAL field order fix for that matter... 5.7 is apparently going out for "evaluation" today (or whenever Monday hits over there), so hopefully it

  • Re: XPress Pro - when is the next version

Probably more like an announcement at NAB with a June release date that will slip to August. They tend to offer a very cheap upgrade to previous version users who upgrade since the announcement tho (ie if u upgrade to 5.5 after the announcement, they'll let you upgrade very cheaply when 6.0 appears). It's plausible.

  • Re: Capturing into Avid Xpress 5.6.4, from JVC GY-HD100U camera hard drive with MPEG2 compression

Yep, Avid have quite frankly been shithouse to their JVC using customers, the rumour is Xpress Pro 5.7 which is supposedly coming out in March will have 720p50 support so I imagine that'll include 720p60, but probably not with JVC 720p60 HDV support. No one knows if they'll ever bother supporting JVC's excellent series of cameras properly. They certainly
