About Steve Cohen

Went to school at Yale and Pepperdine. Focused on still photography and psychology. Began my editing career with the Moviola, but worked with Montage and Avid, helping them develop features for professionals. Edited the first studio feature to use the Media Composer ("Lost in Yonkers") and the first TV movie that used an Avid to conform a film negative ("Teamster Boss"). Responsible for the classic book "Avid Media Composer Techniques and Tips," and the current "Avid Agility," available from Amazon. Other credits include "15 Minutes," "Before the Rains," "Blood and Wine," "No Man's Land," "Rambling Rose," "Angie," "Three Wishes," "Material Girls," and "The Prince and Me." Taught for 10 years at the American Film Institute, and was the first chairman of the editing department there. Helped create, and then became the publisher of, the Motion Picture Editors Guild Magazine. Awards: Emmy for "LBJ: The Early Years;" A.C.E. Eddy for "Don King: Only in America;" A.C.E. Robert Wise Award for “journalistic illumination of the art of editing.” Currently responsible for the blog Splice Now.
